Not sure sure about that, I perceived the fan sound more obnoxious compared to my old PG27UQ. Probably a unit by unit case. I never had the fan adjust speed according to load, contradictory to the smart fan description on the product page.

i do like that the monitor displays a console on the hdmi port properly. the pg279q i have wouldnt unless i unplug the monitor then plug back on.
They fixed the fan sound in PG35VQ but that monitor has its own issue so hard to find a good monitor even when paying so much these days..

HyperMatrix After over a year of owning 2 of these monitors, I have to say I wish I had never bought it. A few key reasons:

1) Lack of GPU power to properly use the monitor (I blame Nvidia/RTX Fail Series for this). I've stuck to playing mostly racing games or rpg games that can be played with a controller. But....when I play games I can play with a controller....I prefer playing them on my TV. And when I lower the graphics settings or internal resolution scale on FPS games to be able to play them at a fluid rate, I remember how much better it would look when I was actually playing on a 1440p monitor. I went from doing 99% of my gaming on a PC monitor, to 50% on monitor and 50% on my TV now.

2) The matte coating, and lack of black contrast layer. Comparing it to my TV, the glossy pure black that Samsung uses makes images look so much more rich and vibrant. This is sorely lacking.

3) The FALD system. It's horrible. On the desktop when you move your mouse cursor, the entire color/brightness of the large 1" or so area around the cursor changes. There is no proper blending of the light zones either. And again, because it's missing that deep black coating that Samsung uses, it becomes impossible to block out minor bloom/haloing. So with the matte coating, and the poor FALD system, you get a worse contrast experience than you would with even a good edge lit HDR samsung TV. In FPS games there will also be a light blob around your crosshairs in the middle of the screen, or around any light source in the dark. It's really all very poorly done and despite showing off how hard it was to implement FALD with GSYNC, which I believe it was, it's a terrible experience.

4) GSYNC/HDR switching timing. Tabbing into/out of fullscreen games takes several seconds. On my TV I know it takes a second and a half to switch to HDR mode, but this is a lot longer, and annoying as hell. Especially when you're playing a fullscreen game, and you adjust the system volume, and windows pops up the little volume hud, which disables HDR momentarily, then takes a couple seconds to get you back into the mode.

5) 98Hz actual 10-bit HDR. I'd prefer 98Hz on the desktop, with 120/144Hz in games. And sometimes it works. But sometimes it doesn't. And it gets worse if you decide to wish a game could be played in 98Hz instead, but the game has no refresh rate controls. So then you have to go into nvidia control panel and set the refresh rate you'd like to use for that individual game. Overall it feels like a stupid compromise for such a supposedly premium product. This gripe is probably the least credible of the bunch, and this was known about the monitor before I even bought it.

Overall, I feel this is a beta product with a premium price tag. Too many corners were cut, and no thought was given to what customers wanted. It was developed under the same policy that gave us the RTX series. Lackluster crap that has potential, but is far too expensive, and falls well short of what's required for any of its advertised features to be of any use.

So to sum it up, I would NOT recommend buying this or similar monitors until a few things are changed:

- Full 144Hz 10-bit support
- Micro LED FALD
- Gloss deep black layer with anti-reflective properties like on Samsung TVs

You don't have to listen to me. But you'll be sorely disappointed, considering the price. I'd say an OLED with 120Hz and VRR would be a better investment and a far better experience if you're careful with image burn in.

It sure isn't, yet you have this one special snowflake (the one with Asus/ROG "connections") invading almost every forum, claiming it is ghosting after his r/ultrawidemasterrace post got called out. Not sure if that guy is arguing for the sake of arguing and *needs* to be right at all cost in his eyes but it is what it is, it's the internet after all. At the end of the day customers shouldn't be ok with issues like this.

Yes, he prolly should not have said he had deep connections with Asus R&D.

He also keeps going on about how he bought the monitor from ROG store, like that even exists ?? And keeps taking about how he got it before everyone else.

He prolly got it for free tbh. Tge monitors werent even available until last month. He also got his around the same time as reviewers, not co incidence.

You've also got a special snowflake on this forum who keeps claiming that the flickering is caused by "typical slow VA panel response times". Lol some people will just believe whatever they wanna believe. Ghosting/slow VA pixels has nothing to do with this defect.

People on r/ultrawidemasterrace file this under ghosting, comparing it to what you'd see on a 240Hz panel and well.. Justifying a purchase is fine and all if that makes you sleep at night; however this issue certainly doesn't look like ghosting to me.

Same here, after i used OLED C6P since 2016 i got used to size and quality, I was thinking that 35inch will be big enough and that every game needs GSYNC and that 120+Hz i great and that the new display port will allow me to use 120hz/12bit [it does], but now that i finally got the monitor and its trash with bugs from here to the moon [not just flickering and scan lines, i had otehr issues] and it looks small by comparison, i will be getting C9, which is cheaper too [I had to import the asus from abroad, paid extra 1K USD for shipping and import tax] and C9 i can get local with 3 years warranty and soon it gets GSYNC support and i bet that next gen nvidia cards will have HDMI 2.1 so that means native 4K/120hz, for now gsync at 4k/60 will do it, even my 2080ti cant push 60 in some games Ultra settings especially with RTX, if the range is low enough, say 30 to 60 ill be happy and when video cards with HDMI 2.1 come out we will get 12Bit/120Hz 4K too
