Retrorockit Here is the datsheet for the PLL on these.

On page 1 it shows some FSB presets with clean bus frequencies. There seems to be a song and dance required to get the PLL to readback more than 8bytes.
I'm pretty much Hexadecimal illiterate myself. But 166, and 200 FSB are in there somehwere.
I didn't see any sign of a TME lock or read only protection going on.
You could underclock the multipler with Throtllestop and see if you can get an FSB bump, then bring the multiplier back up.

CasperCrowley Just wanted to express my thanks. My Dell T7500 has been a source of fun and learning since I purchased it used for $100 from a classified ad a few years ago. Your thread has brought new life to my T7500 after almost giving up on it in favor of a new build.

Retrorockit Here is a Notebook Overclocking thread with all kinds of methods to unlock settings. They were rewriting their RAM timings on the modules themselves.

Those of you who successfully overclocked your dual xeon machines. Are you running a higher speed DDR3?

I have (2) X5680's and 24Gb of DDR3-1333 ECC. And the second I start bumping up the FSB my multiplier starts jumping around and any measurable performance gain is lost. Wonder if I should go DDR3-1600 or higher? At that point I think you loose ECC and so I'm curious if there are much if any benefits to be had here?

Specs:
T5500 (same PLL)
(2) X5680
24Gb DDR3-1333 ECC (3x4gb) (3x4gb)
GTX 1060-6GB
Windows 10 Pro
Marvell Hyperduo running 4 EVO860s in RAID 10.

I wonder if that's what's going on with other computers that lock up at low FSB increases? My G41 Optiplex 380 X5470 only goes from 333 to 340fsb. I may have to try this. i wanted to OC the 65W Q9550s. But went with the Xeon swap when it crapped out @ 2,880Mhz.
I picked up a MB for the X5687. An Alienware Aurora R1 Micro ATX with unlocked BIOS.

Good call, so I tried pressing the button on the back with it disconnected from the Dell and it just made a little clicking noise. Tried a few more times and there was a huge spark and a strong smell of burning. Gave up after that.

Thats really strange because I used a PCI card in the PCI-X no problem, from sound cards, to ethernet adapters, to old video cards, all worked fine. I'd make sure to retest the PSU by pressure the button on the back to see if it turns on.

Raize93 Meanwhile, I blew up my power supply trying to put a universal PCI (5V or 3.3V... the one with a short set of pins then long then short) SATA card into my PCI-X slot (short pins, long pins, medium length pins). Is this intended behaviour? I guess it doesn't like having the 5V pins for the PCI card put into the 64 bit data slots for the PCI-X.
