also on a same chip on asus X299-e board, and I think hwmonitor shows vcore wrong. My chip is at 4.5GHz with adaptive voltage set to -0.044V. When running aida64 test I get VID readings to each chip from 1.152V to 1.285V while cpu-z and hwmonitor shows vcore 0.968V. LLC had no effect on VID, tested on level 3, 6 and AUTO. I haven't touched the additional turbo mode cpu core voltage, so it's set to auto. I've managed to push it to 4.7GHz with same settings and it passed intel burn test and cinebench, but crashed immediatly on aida.
Don't really know what numbers to believe, or even if I did OC correctly I've only overclocked 6700k before and it was sooo much simpler.
oh, and when LLC was set manually, it only showed 1.000V Vcore, it didn't change in any level

Doubt you need any avx applied till you get to 4.5 and beyond
After 4.5 just start adding 1 to each for each additional multiplier past 4.5 pretty easy.
Adaptive voltage works the best and actually on a "-" skylake-x will always over shoot vcore.

CPU core voltage offset @ -0.035
Additional turbo mode cpu core voltage @ -1.185
See where you temps are with that with a few benchmarks like time spy..

Adaptive and offset will add what you set in that ontop of what your stock voltage for each core is. Each core will have its own seperate voltage depending how intel binned it.
Im using offset voltage and per core overclock since my 2 best cores do 5.1ghz easily. Where the rest take a bit of a push to just get 5ghz.
If im remembering correctly before I was de-lidded I was running -0.015 offset which got me to 1.2v on the lower quality cores. 1.190 on the average cores and 1.175v on the 2 good cores which had me at 4.6ghz
Now im running a + 0.135 offset for the 5.1ghz cores and + 0.115 offset for the 5ghz cores which gives me the voltage as you see in my screen shot.
Im running -4 AVX and -9 AVX512 offsets which is 1 hour stable on AIDA FPU stress. Could probably run them higher speed but I dont run anything AVX so didnt care.
HWinfo 64 is better for monitoring temps and speeds IMO.
There are good gains to be had overclocking the CPU cache as well. 3ghz is easy to get. 3.2ghz takes quite a bump in voltage.
For my stress and stability testing I used.
Cinebench 1st off while watching "Windows Hardware Errors (WHEA)" in HWinfo.
If it passed that then I did 1 hour of realbench.
If it passed that I did 1 hour of AIDA FPU stress test.
Then finally played some games while having OBS running recording in MakeMyCPU hurt setting and limited to 18 threads. (2 threads left for the game)
That was the hardest one to pass and got my CPU the hottest of all the tests. Havnt had any crashes at all since passing all those tests and had over 1000 hours up time between forced windows updates.

Thank you. I heard that it was between 95C - 105C. I hit the "stop" button as soon as AIDA64 pushed it to 105C at the 10 minute mark in the screenshot I took.
I feel that AIDA64 is a bit too rough on this CPU for a long-term stress test. I think I will use the Intel XTU program, instead. What are your thoughts on this? I usually due a long stress test from 6-8 hours. Do you believe this to be sufficient?
Also, does Adaptive mode cause my Core Voltage to go above the 1.150V, at all?

Its ment to downclock when there isnt enough load.
Here is my one.
And youll want to use voltage offset or adaptive voltage so it drops down as well when the core speed does to save some power usage and heat.
And id recommend you dont take it over 95C temps since thats what they recommend max safe temp is.

i9-7900X Overclock Questions
It's been a while since I overclocked and knew going with the i9-7900X would be a good challenge to get back into it. However, I think I've might've bitten more off than I can chew with this chip.
Here's the backstory... I sent my CPU to Silicon Lottery for Delidding and got it back. Right now, I am running the CPU @ 4.3 GHz and the voltage is set at 1.175. I'm using this on an ASUS ROG Rampage VI APEX motherboard.
For cooling, I am using a Fractal Design Celsius S36 (360mm AIO) to cool this chip in a be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 White Edition case.
I'm curious as to why my CPU's speed keeps going up-and-down according to HWMonitor. I see it 1.2GHz while writing this, but when AIDA64 gets going, then I am at the 4.3 GHz that I am seeking.
I've attached a screenshot of what things looked like after a brief 10 minute stress test ended.
So, everything is set to manual mode for the Core Voltage and "Sync All Cores" for the frequency.
Any help to stabilize this beast, and please feel free to toss some knowledge my way. After having the same rig for 5 years I am not used to/or understand AVX and AVX512.
