They are going to be awesome tools if they prove out, but the requirements to allow them to operate will likely render them niche for a long time yet, if not forever.

IMO Quantum computing, once it is at a scale to use for scientific modeling, solving equations, etc - will be just as transformative to the world as computers were.
It just seems like once we have that capability, no equation will be too difficult to solve.

The computers we have are perfectly capable of modeling the climate, the meteorologists and climatologists aren't tho.
Fine, I'll be constructive. Infinite size infinite time algorithmic tricks make some of these problems tractable on Turing machines providing you limit the input adequately, but computers are nowhere near capable of accurately solving even a fraction of the problems we would want to understand in science.
