Xyxox | Yeah, hence the "all closed up" clause. |

xJumper | If the OS was actually readily available and could come in a non noob'ed up version that's not on rails/part of the locked in Apple eco-system, it could be quite a capable OS. Think OSX w/ mate desktop, apt-get package manager and the whole Linux ecosystem of applications available. What's missing from major Linux or any other FOSS distro right now over proprietary paid OS's is the polish factor, OSX is pretty darn polished but it's to the point where it's on rails. I tried using a Mac for a bit and while it was neat, seeing many scripts/commands I use crossing over, having to pay money for every single little thing I wanted to do that would otherwise have a full fledged/free version on Linux was horrible. |

It may have been originally built on BSD, but it has long ago diverged to the point they are not the same thing. |

Xyxox | The various BSD distributions are incredibly good, but they are primarily designed as servers. FreeBSD And GhostBSD would probably be good choices to check out in a virtual machine prior to deciding where you want to land. Problem is, you don't have nearly as mych support on hardware and with various pieces of software as you get in nearly any Linux distro. |

xJumper | Lol BSD it is then. That's gonna suck, took me a while to learn this Linux thing. |

Xyxox | Doubtful. Oracle's Solaris was such a bust I rarely see it in any datacenter any longer. |

xJumper | Solaris reboot |

Xyxox | One of the most interesting things to contemplate in this acquisition is, what will become of Oracle Linux? It's based on RHEL and Oracle has bet heavy on their Linux, but with IBM (direct competitor) driving the direction of RHEL, where does ORacle Linux go? |
