I have the new 1660 up and running in my system and have a mild but stable oc of +250mhz on the memory.
Also back in the day, the D9 micron memory was the best DDR2 you could get. We'd get 2-2-2-6 timings on a good stick. Interesting that Micron has a similar nomenclature on their GDDR line of memory. i may check the timings of these two version of g5 from micron to see whether there is any real improvement or just lossening the timings on new g5 for more frequency oc headroom. |

micron g5 on 1660 is not the same as the g5 on pascal. new d9vvr is far more better than old d9tcb.
the new g5 from micron has significant headroom for oc. unlike on pascal eg 1070 the micron g5 in general can oc ~150mhz only. samsung highest g5 version is native 9gbps. while micron has 8gbps only. i was disspointed about nvidia not choosing the 9gbps from samsung but the new micron g5 shows it is capable to do 9gbps or even 10gbps although timings may be worse on micron g5. so quick looking at the reviews and my local central eu prices and 1660 is cca 260eur and 1660ti is 300eur including VAT. difference in performance seems cca 20% so those 40 eur more are very good value |

I always wondered why didnt they use 10gbps GDDR5X. It wasnt long ago they have excessive GDDR5X inventory, Nvidia had to waste it on 1060 & underclock it, which do not actually benefit much.
It's one thing to have some "excessive" GDDR5X laying about that can be redirected to a card that's on the tail end of its lifespan and going EOL within a few months, it's another thing to commit to using GDDR5X on a new $219 GPU that will be sold by the hundreds of thousands if not millions over the next couple years. |

And knowing how much AMD backers like to complain about the general public holding NVIDIA in higher esteem, if the color situation were ever proven to be a defect we'd never hear the end of it.
but last night i connected to the DP port (first time ever for DP) and oh boy! until i set the NVCP to 32/8/RGB/full it looked like my cheap TN panel TV (via igpu hdmi) was the IPS screen. i have no idea why DP was so worse . .but it was. i had though it was more "user perception" until then. again, never used DP and never saw it before and the NVCP settings corrected it, but it was shockingly bad. |

what I am trying to say is there is no point buying expensive OC edition to OC when the next up is so close. One is better off buying the entry level 1660Ti. It is fine if one is buying for better cooling and components but buying just to OC to squeeze more performance is pointless.
