New BIOS again with AGESA Combo-AM4 126.96.36.199 X470G523.BST
I found no new features in the BIOS but seems MEMORY support has been improved.
Can now for a easy test actually boot 3333Mhz for a beginning and run TestMem5 without unsurmountable errors right away. Seems you can actually run this now. Though it's manual tuning, most auto settings aren't actually really that usable for stability.
Will be slowly working my way up to better results as I find the settings that it likes for best stability.
A bonus is lower ProcODT values seem to boot this time around and are better for memory stability.

|miklkit||Woot! New bios is out for the X370 GT7 and X470 GT8. It will hopefully give compatibility with Zen2.|

I'm running the X370 GT7 and got my 3200 cl16 ram to 3030mhz.
Nighthog is running the X470 GT8 and got his 3200 cl14 ram to 3200.
Both of us are using 1700 cpus. Memory compatibility is the weak spot on these boards and I'm waiting to see how the X570 version works out.

Any X470 alternative? With the same VRM capabilities and better DRAM overclocking possibilities? I am looking at the board to suit a Ryzen 5 2600, even thou 3200 MHz is a good value from me, not the best, but OK, for G.Skill - Flare X Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 with 14-14-14-34 on plan.
Keep it into 170-180 EUR value.

That is why I stopped at 3.925ghz @ 1.356v on my 1700. It just wasn't worth it to go higher. The highest vrm temps I have seen was 68C on a hot day with the usual being 62C. In normal use they sit in the 36-42C range.
My 990FX Sabertooth pushing an FX @ 1.51v would have the VRMs go over 81C if the stress test was left running long enough. I had an air scoop taking some air from a front case fan and directing it behind the board with exhaust slots cut into the back.

Oddly enough I haven't really noticed "degradation" per see but time will tell. Gonna be picking up a Ryzen 3xxx series soon enough.
I've pushed 1.400V SoC on my gigabyte to it as well for 3800Mhz memory runs, why I picked up this Biostar with it's 4-phase SoC to be able to push even more voltage but sadly this board won't boot above 3200Mhz MEM as mentioned earlier making that VRM for SoC useless in practice.
On the other hand I'm impressed the VRM didn't reach 80C at all either. Stayed 77C as max with several runs and I don't have a direct airflow on the VRM heatsinks either. Just passive/cross-flow from radiator fans in the chassis.
Room temperature was ~20C I reckon at average if not colder (window open with below 10C outside)
I've been eyeing another WC CPU block but wonder if it's just wasted money in the end, this CPU sample is at it's limits either way.

Finally about settled what this Combo will do stable.
Be aware I have a launch day Ryzen 7 1700, they aren't as great as they later ones. Voltage is in danger zone
Was a hassle to nail out the last bit of stability with memory errors but found it in the VDDP voltage to finally settle it. (it mostly affects how low you can go for tRAS & tRC)
Prime95 will overheat with this voltage, my cpu waterblock isn't good enough. (Alphacool NexXxoS XP3 light V.2)

Only gotten 3200Mhz stable... with a memory kit that could do 3733Mhz stable on a gigabyte B350 board.
Basically the board outright refuses to boot/POST too often to manage above 3200Mhz in any meaningful manner. (it just resets)
I could get 3333Mhz to boot on occasion but reboot and you got a reset and have fun trying to get it to boot again. (never had it error free either)
There are way to many limits/gimmicks with regard to memory on this board it's outright painful to try to OC it.
Try too low procODT and the board just fails to POST (though the memory likes the lower procODT better), and try above 1.400V and the board starts to refuse to POST more and more... Basically that's the limit it will do 90% of the time.
That and many missing memory setting features are missing from the BIOS outright like CAD BUS settings. <-- those are critical to a successful high OC to tweak.
Mem voltage is limited to +0.300V so with a 1.200V kit 1.500V is max but as said above anything above 1.400V is a nightmare, it resets 95% of the time.
I think most issues are just bad BIOS implementations/settings.
The board always does a double post/boot, I think some settings are set wrong in there which causes the resets. I would love to be able to stop the double post. Anything unstable and it 90% of the time will reset you settings without allowing you to get to start to see how they fare.
Gigabyte just let you use whatever you wanted how bad it might have been so you could tweak it endlessly. This board just resets anything that is "bad" without letting you try it. Some kind of "safety" feature.
