Alex132 Some much older PSUs are not capable of delivering low enough power for the new C-states introduced in Haswell and beyond, those PSUs however will be of very poor quality anyway.

I'd say anything after 2013/14 should be perfectly fine for Haswell and beyond - and you wouldn't exactly be buying a 5+ year old PSU now-a-days anyway. So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Obviously newer PSUs won't have any issues powering older CPUs without the extra C-states as well.

Cryptedvick Of course it would be OK. Same goes for older PSUs for newer CPUs. For instance, I have an old TX750V2 since 2011 and it still works great in my system, keeping my voltages perfectly stable and never had any issues with it.

PSU & CPU generations

Are newer PSU's OK to use on older CPU's? - I read adverts such as Haswell ready or Kaby Lake ready and figure it's got something to do with the power states etc.....but if Ii buy a newish PSU are they OK to use with Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge or the E versions or Xeon versions E3 or E5?

I figure they should be but not sure 100% - And how about if a PSU was bought in 2,3 years time would they still be good for the same old CPU's? - Thanks
