ezveedub Right off the bat, if it’s coming from AliExpress, you know it’s not a real part. Looks like another China clone of the D5, but this one has the “ceramic” spherical bearing instead of a shaft with two washers like the VP755. D5s have silver metal base inside, not black.

ryan92084 The HK top/res gets high praise. Monsoon has the most customizability but can be daunting to plan out. I've heard good things about the EK one as well.

8564dan So what is the most recommended D5 pump/res combo?

I was getting the XSPC Photon but now I'm not sure if there's a better one?

I just double checked it and yeah you're right, my bad. I was looking at the graph on EK's website and it doesn't go up to 1000LPH, but when I look at the list below it says rated to 1500LPH. According to my Barrow flow meter at full tilt my D5 pushes 5L per minute, which would be around 300L in an hour, so I guess the 1500LPH rating has got to be with zero restriction right?

Vlada011 Only Swiftech MCP655 wSpeed Controller non PWM or Laing D5 from Dazmode site, but not Strong version, normal.

Mordorr Yep...on my reserches i ear good things about those "old" swiftechs versions...

ryan92084 If you are looking for a bare pump the swiftechs are already pretty reasonable.

As for what this is just looks like a Chinese d5 clone. Could be decent one that a worker made after their shift was over, could be a pump that didn't meet laing's standard, or it could be complete garbage in a d5 shell. It is a dice roll.

8564dan I'm new to water cooling and am going with the XSPC D5 Photon Res/Pump combo as it's highly recommended.

I would never try and cheap out on any parts tbh.

I was really thinking to get two of them, because I have an itch to water cool my old rig (5960x and 290x CF) but I don't want to spend a ton of cash cooling old-ish components.

Edit: reason - typo
Would you skimp on your PSU when building your rig? Would you want to buy the dirt cheapest PSU you can find and worry about the day it blows up and takes all your components with it? No? Then why cheap out on your pump. Out of your entire loop I would say the pump is the most important of the lot. It has to be reliable because if the pump goes the rest of the loop cant do its job. Don't cheap out on the pump. Simple as that.
