howdy from the server space..

My first computer was a Franklin Ace 1000. I have been doing OS kernel work for 25 years, and have owned various interesting machines. I actually ran a DEC Alpha desktop for about 8 years in the 90s / early 2000s ... First with DEC Unix, and later FreeBSD.


I typically work on servers, and generally use server boards for my desktop. My current desktop is a Threadripper 2990WX (with ECC memory running at stock freq). My general rule of thumb is that if it doesn't support ECC, I won't consider it. So this overclocking stuff is quite new to me. I now have a teenage son, and we just bought a Ryzen 3700x based gaming for him. So I'm learning about stuff like XMP and PBO that is quite new to me.
