I want to buy a 2070 super. Now on my market i have Asus 2070 Super Strix 8G with Modern Warfare for a low price.
I know it has a much lower power limit than O8G. Can i succesfully update the bios to Strix O8G? Or may i buy the O8G? Thanks!

(Or maybe may i go for Palit 2070 Super Gamerock premium for same price as Strig 8G)?

Nematic From the start i want to say that I'm green at this kind of stuff but i made some research.
I want to upgrade to 2070 super and I hesitate between Gigabyte Aorus and Palit JS.
The Palit is a bit cheaper and as far as I know it's pretty cool therefore good for some OC.
The gigabyte on the other hand is more expensive (around 40$ after conversion) but offers more output slots, a bit more boost clock from the get-go (1905 vs 1815 although maybe it shouldn't count as i plan to OC slightly anyway (?)) aswell as usb-c (I do not plan on using it but it's better to have it than not).
I have gigabyte 760 windforce oc 4gb now, i've never had any experience with Palits though.
I think i will go with Palit JS.
What would you propose?

i ran some furmark, locked the power limit to 240w, to see the differences of cooling performace in terms of gpu temperature and fans rpm.


this is WINDFORCE 8G (< 2 SLOTS)
the auto temp and rpm are 75c @ 2250rpm.
for ~400 rpm more or less, it resuts in ~5c differentials. but going even further lower to 1400rpm would then be hitting the temperature limit of 88c.



this is gaming oc 3x (>2 slots)
the auto temp and rpm are 69c @ 1875rpm. for ~400 rpm more at 2230rpm the temp is 64c and 400rpm more at 2650rpm is 62c only.
this one gives users more room to lower the fan speed until hitting the temp limit (85c @ 1000rpm).



comparison




so, thicker heatsink design matters and seems to be very important on high power consumption (>200W).
and that gives us a very clear hint about how good could the windforce oc 3x be!
the windforce oc 3x (GV-N207SWF3OC-8GD) could be the cooling king among the entry level of 2070 supers.
this baby has 1 heatpipe cut (affecting the middle part of the 3 finstacks), but got the same gaming oc 3x's heatsink thickness and fan sizes.

G3RG Anyone flash the bios on the Zotac 2070 Super Twin Fan to unlock Power Limits?

Edit: Settles to 2070mhz and 7900 mhz memory once it's warmed up. Need more power and cooling.

Blade design still has impact how much noise it makes. I replaced my case fans with some noctua fans and now my 2070S windforce runs at 70-77C depending on games with 1700-1900RPM. Cooling of the windforce design is good. It would just heat up in my case to much.
