Two different Metros.

Metro Exodus still costs money.

Metro Redux, an earlier game in the series, was offered for free for a week, probably in the hope that people downloading it will later by Exodus.

I mean as far they dont do anything shady like facebook does, I dont see a problem with epic
I say trash em' all. They can never not do better.

Steam feels like it's own platform with achievements, profiles, etc. Epic is just some annoyance you need open to start your already denuvo wrapped games. Still, steam and all of them are just glorified rentals. Look at steam fighting that ruling that users have to be able to sell their own games. They're all shady IMHO.

Taking my free game though teeeheee
fortnite money is for the three Bs. Bentley, Boats, and Bi... nvm. It's a sfl saying.

JackCY It should be titled [EPIC] under freebies no?
Anyway I got Metro as soon as it was free on Epic, played only the start to figure out some settings, well there is not much to set, it seems pretty basic even compared to STALKER back in the day settings wise.
The FOV can only be edited in CFG file and it is pretty much a must as the default 50 vFOV is ridiculously narrow it was almost making me uneasy lol, no game has ever managed that with a messed up FOV. Set it back to the good old standard of 4:3 hFOV 90 deg converted to vFOV. No idea what they were thinking with so low FOV. Games looks great in Redux and nowadays it actually runs fast but it's still not a 2x (4x in game SSAA) render resolution territory, 5120x2880px is tough to render haha, doesn't need it anyway.
No ingame FPS limiter and RTSS limiting is not accurate with this one.
Taking over control of camera and disabling or limiting mouse control is disgusting in Metro, I can't imagine someone playing this in VR and suddenly the game starts moving the camera where ever it wants lol. Stupid animations.

The difficulty settings are confusing at first for sure, they didn't ever solve that to make it better explained what each difficulty modifies precisely. On top of that in options difficulty for lulz who knows why, probably so one can bail later on down to normal difficulty.

I have no problem with Epic launcher, Metro is better launched without it, directly, it then creates yet another config file and it's not shared as if launched via Epic launcher, beware. Epic launcher is OK, why do we need a bloody cart or what ever are people complaining about? You want to buy 10 games at once? Instead of paying 10 times? It has search, it actually works unlike Steam's royal mess of a store filled with trash, not that Epic won't have the same problem later once the store is filled more and more. The UI is basic but it's my kind of simplistic style. Settings are dumbed down too much. There is no download limiter and that's my main issue with the launcher. Other than that... don't care, free games are free games, I don't care that they are older I haven't played most of them yet anyway and some I wanted to. As far as Epic+Nvidia with their Unreal... looks nice, has plenty features but runs slow like a potato, this has not changed since Unreal engine launched decades ago.

What are they doing against PC gaming? Offering a top notch 3D engine and more that others can license. Paying for exclusives to their store. Nothing wrong with these. People get too sensitive about stuff that doesn't matter.

Steam, Epic, GOG?, ... don't like any launcher and prefer games to run offline without the need to download them via a launcher or need a launcher connected to internet to play at all. Steam has continuous downtimes, they even have a scheduled maintenance where they take the whole thing down each week or month at least, happens all the damn time that Steam is down. Not buying games on Steam or Epic or elsewhere unless I really like and will play the game a lot. It's not so hard these days to try betas for free, or a free weekend of a game even though traditional demos are dead.

Peolpe assume the barebones Epic launcher (that is only necessary to install and update games) is some sort of cost cutting exercise on Epics part but tis entirely possible a "lean mean" launcher was intentional. No idea really.

I use both and they both work fine.
They didn't have a shopping cart when they launched. I understand you don't wanna be part of a community but they dind't have bog standard functions of ANY store in the world, digital or physical.

For me it's less about the launcher itself and more what they do. This is especially "painful" since they put Metro out on steam to order yet cause Epic payed money, the publishers yanked it off again, and now Epic is giving it away for free, most likely to crash Steam sales of said game.
If their goal was to really rub people the wrong way, they succeeded with flying colors.
