Just so this doesn't seem too pie in the sky and could never be realized, my daughter somehow wrecked the micro usb charge port on her phone, the middle tongue on the female end in the phone. I got her a refurbished iPhone and thought I would take a peek at the uncommon processor in her old phone. It was the 8 core Airmont Spreadtrum sc9853i and I can confirm that it did run cool, at near flagship arm performance and didn't get hot and had ok battery life. Looking at it reminded me of the Tremont board. I don't think you would notice a performance deficit running android with flagship arm vs Tremont. x86-64 would probably run faster with a chip made for it though. Edit: I suppose this doesn't count as desktop though, and people like their app stores. And Bluestacks can be a resource hog. So maybe just better battery life. |

At least some of Intel's processors are getting low powered enough to run without a cooler. Like this board pic from here: https://www.cnx-software.com/2019/10...rid-processor/ This might be the board from the Surface Neo since it is the only product that says it will have Tremont so far. |

Honestly Intel has more runway to burn then just about any. The astounding thing really isn't AMD. It's TSMC and their ability to churn out these nodes. That used to be entirely the domain of Intel. I mean they were really pushing things forward for quite a long time on their own and everyone else was catching up. I don't say this to downplay AMD. I have a 3900x in my own system but TSMC has been the key to AMD's success. |
