skupples but NV's marketing machine says otherwise, and that's all we the people know!

JackCY They buy what ever they want because the gov. is not stopping these behemoths from killing off any potential competition. They may as well start selling the same products under Intel name now. Using GPUs for AI is a stupid inefficient idea to begin with.

Or they realized there was patent overlap and the way they came to an agreement was to just buy the company with the patent on the implementation they need. Or Intel wants to incorporate some of their tech in next gen GPU. Could be all sorts of reasons.

Not quite though I was sued by a guy I bought some bitcoins from. And he won because I was a no-show as I didn't know a thing about it. Never was served with papers over that one.

nVidia currently owns and dominates this market which they helped craft starting with Fermi. You can have hardware but without a software ecosystem it's meaningless. All the giant Cloud computing services designed for machine learning are using nVidia GPUs, mostly their Tesla T4: Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and Red Hat OpenShift 4. We'll see how Intel plans to take on an ecosystem which is stated to be the de facto standard for data-parallel computing.

so are there kids all over the world playing with AI in their bedrooms right now... instead of watching porn & gaming, like my generation did?
No, they're still going to be watching porn and gaming, but just with an AI instead of passive content. Imagine that...

Every tech company is heavily overvalued, or all other companies are undervalued. Either way.
AI is seen to be the future money maker in this coming decade, not just by various companies but by governments as well. China is actually spending billions and billions "acquiring" tech and making chip advances specifically for AI dominance because they believe that will give them the highest income in the coming years.
If you look around, most tech articles on technology forcasts say that AI specialists will be one of the top paying jobs in the coming years, and it already is an extremely high paid one with companies doing crazy amounts of headhunting. If you looking for a job or just a career change into a higher profit area, you should really start learning AI now, and make your move into that sector within the next year or two so you get in before the mad rush of everyone thinking they can be AI specialists.

Don't feel too bad. I jumped on bitcoin hard @ 200 each. Dumped my life savings into it + sold my car + PC. And all 700 of my coins went bye bye due to a man named Mark Karpeles.

At 20k each that would have been a nice sweet 14m.
