Reproducibility:

Yes.

Repro Steps:

View a thread in the Folding forum. An active one if possible.

Keep refreshing the page, and watch the "Currently Viewing" section.

Even though people are posting replies, that section does not update.

Expected:

For it to actually show who is viewing the thread.

Notes:

Two comments:

1) I've only noticed this in the Folding forum, but I've not been looking closely in other ones.

2) A recent release (I think 2 back, but maybe 3) had a fix which involved this bug in "certain" forums. It may be that the Folding forum was also affected, but not fixed.

Even though there have been a couple of dozen replies, each refresh shows the same people:

Bump.

A Jing screencast of this one might be the best way to document it since it depends on some relatively real-time info - is that something you're able to do, z?

zodac 04-30-2012 11:24 AM

Able to do sure, but you want me to get a 20-minute long video? It shouldn't be too hard to confirm - the CC threads are quite active. Open one of them, then come back in 20 minutes; odds are the viewing users will be the same.

For example, I saw you in there last night - I don't think you were there for long, but your name was still listed for 15 minutes (at which point I left).

True for us, but, as an example for the engineering team to observe it might be easier to have someone familiar with the usernames documenting the lag; if it wouldn't be too much hassle.

I can try and get a video made this weekend.

Just for the record, for these cases, how long should it take for the name to be removed from the "Currently Viewing" section? And can the answers factor in the general lag between updating too please? Because there's no point being told they should be removed right away, but the lag keeps it there for up to 5 minutes...

1) The user closes the tab and opens another thread elsewhere.

2) The user goes to another thread within the same tab.

3) The users closes out of the browser while on the thread.

For vB, it was:

1) Instant.

2) Instant.

3) 15 minutes (until user logged out).

I can do some proper testing with threads and see if it's the general Huddler lag causing it, or something more specific to some subforums.

There can be a couple of minutes delay, that much I know and that's considered pretty normal.  Let me see if I can get anything more specific before you go wasting 20 minutes trying to get a video of something.

Cool. I won't be able to do anything until Saturday anyway. :)

Bump.

still happening as far as i can tell - it's showing people viewing a thread when they've logged off 30 minutes ago, an hour even.

350

note the time (bottom right), and sweffymo (middle right)

after opening that page, i click on sweffymo's name to go to his profile, this is the result

351

again, note the time (bottom right) and the last logged in time (middle left)

as zodac said, the maximum time someone would be shown online was 15 minutes but for whatever reason it's increased.

Yeah, spoke to SJ about this. It's a known issue, and the widget needs to be redone completely. Hopefully it'll be soon after the mobile site, but obviously, no ETA.
