[Build Log] Project Nothing to Hide (2010-2019) Antec 300 Custom Loop 9 years in the making!

Finally back after MIA for the last 5 years on the forum!
Really excited to announce that this project has finally been completed after almost a decade.

Updated: 8/13/2019: It's literary taking me forever to get the entire build log updated, finally able to clean up the backlogs after all these years.
Final pictures are up in Page 4

Feel free follow my [email protected], new build coming up soon!
Any questions, feel free to let me know

Intro and History

Project “Nothing to Hide” aka. Project “N.T.H” started way back during the summer of 2010, two years after I acquired the original Antec Three Hundred. In 9 years I've through 4 generations of hardware, from air cooling to soft tubing and eventually to hard tubing loop. The only thing still remaining the same is the Antec Three Hundred case, that's right, it's the vanilla version :D

Initially picked the case due to it's minimalist look, decent air flow and only cost $50 I think. It wasn’t until after watching the Three Hundred Mod by Bill Owen / Mnpctech that had really inspired me to start my own project. Thank you Bill for the inspiration and all the great work you do!

Like many others back in the old days, I started the initial mods with cutting side panel window, drilling cables management holes and painting the interior, honesty just want to improve cable management to hide these ugly rainbow cables and all that mess.

As time progressed, my has vision became more and more clear, I knew the time would come to create something special inside the same old chassis. During the 3rd year as continued to experiment and explore different things, I came to the sense of embrace as much as I can instead of hiding that's inside, at that moment in time, Project Nothing to Hide was truly born!

My end goal was to create something out of the ordinary from inside with nothing to hide, yet remain the elegance from the original exterior design. Been going on and off, so hasn't been easy past few years, but at the end of day, I'm really happy with the final results, what a journey it has been for the past 9 years!

v1 (Sept 2008- June 2010)
  • Vanilla Antec Three Hundred with just changing a few led fans updates and cut off some fan grills, nothing much going on.

v1.1 - Year 2010
  • Cut a window for side panel
  • Cut cable management holes
  • Painted the case to glossy black
  • Installed the U-Channel from Mnpctech
https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Dremel was all I had to use to cut the window.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Should have used matte black, would have saved all the hassle later on, but oh well...

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Apparently, I didn't like the way the window look, so I decided to make a bigger cut

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Just cut off some cable management holes...

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
This thing stinks, U channel is 100 times better!

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
RIP my old Gigabyte UD3, board was shorted since I placed one stand off to the wrong spot...http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
My old UD3 in the case.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
If you are new to spray paint, don't make the same mistake like me, be sure to take everything apart before spraying, or else you'll regret it just like me...

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Yeahhhh, U channel has finally arrived! Thanks Bill!

v1.2 - Year 2011
  • Sleeved PSU extension cables
  • Reverse case mod with some major system components upgrade.
https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
For those who plan to reverse mod this case, it's totally possible.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
IMO, Zalman makes some of the sexiest air coolers on the planet.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

v1.3 - Year 2012
  • Re-painted case without top and bottom panels with matt back and lots of dry/wet sanding
  • Sleeved front I/O cables
  • Sleeved PSU cables for Seasonic X760
  • Removed entire HDD cages, only 5.25 bays left at this point
https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
So this was what I had to do with the entire case again!
Two thing I should have done long time ago...
  1. Paint it matte black instead of glossy black
  2. Taking every thing apart before the paint job...
https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Sanding, sanding and sanding...

v1.5 - Year 2014
  • Removed stock honeycomb 140mm grill and modded it to fit dual 120mm fans for the top panel
  • Carbon fiber mod with and dual 120mm acrylic grill on top panel
  • Removed 5.25'' bays completely (rest is history!)
https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
RIP honeycombs

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
There were four mounting holes for the 140mm, so had to make sure they were not in the way.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Last shot before the cut

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Done!

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Took me forever to sand off the existing paint.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Completely removed all 5.25'' bays, which means wet sanding and spray painting all over again.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Top panel after priming, looking good http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Time for more spray paint!

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
A pair of these Gelid Wings would look great inside the case!

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Love how they match with my sleeving.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Let's hope I won't have to spray paint this part all over.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Time to apply some carbon fiber.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL
Pre-cut the sheet first, notice how I left some gap between left and right.

https://www.overclock.net/content/ty.../1000/flags/LL

Can't wait to put it on already.

I like the simplicity of it, nothing like a matte black finish thumb.gif Subbed!

Yeah, the idea was too keep it simple and clean. I probably wouldn't have to remove all the 3.5'' and 5.25'' bays if the case had more room.
But yeah I do like how it is turning out so far. smile.gif
