I5 4670K overclock result and question
2 Attachment(s)

I am pretty new to overclocking and I have overclocked my I5 4670k (see picture)
When using IBT high stress test my temps are (see picture)
I tried 4,5 once and that was stable to with temps around 85 max
I wanna get it to 4,6 is this a bad idea or is it possible easy?
I am afraid my temps go way to high. I am new the only things I understand is voltage and multiplier is there maybe a other setting I can use to run a bit cooler and lower voltage or get 4.6 easier?

Computer Specs:
CPU: Intel i-5 4670k
GPU: Msi Geforce GTX 970
Ram: Kingstone 16 gb ram
Cooling: Corsair H100i V2
SSD: 128 GB

Allready Thanks,

I don't see what your Uncore or Ring Ratio is. Is it also 4.3Ghz?
If so, try stock multiplier (38), and then bump core up to 4.4 or higher. You may gain another 1 or two multipliers by leaving Uncore/Ring Ratio at stock, without any noticeable decrease in performance.

Sell this junk H100i and get yourself either Noctua D15 or Raijintek Tisis. On Tisis + Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut I pushed my 4690k to 4.8GHz with 92C under Prime95 (stable but rolled down to 4.7GHz to be able to overclock RAM to 2200MHz from 1866MHz) and in up to mid 60s in CPU intensive games. I also managed to get 5GHz with low 80s in Tera Online, was stable for a few hours and I rolled back cuz temps were obviously too high :D. Not delided, mind you. Don't touch Cache Ratio as its pointless on these i5s, will either do nothing or hurt performance by a bit.

Don't get suggested by CPU-Z Voltage, it reads VID from Z97 Hero, use HWiNFO and search for Vcore zero to three. If VID of 1.22V is necessary to keep 4.3GHz then you'll most likely hit a wall at 4.7GHz with 1.4V if you manage to keep temps in check by replacing this garbage AiO.

Cache actually does help minimum framerates. Get your highest core then go for cache...just get what you can out of 1.25v. I've never heard anyone say it can give you worse performance, I really don't see how it could.
As for using IBT it's pretty useless as a stress test. It's more of a heat test, P95 runs cooler and crashes OCs much faster.
Use HWInfo so we can get some useful info.

If you use P95 and HWinfo I could help you out, I've had mine for some time now and using anything other than P95 has resulted in a crash eventually (often after a few minutes into a game).

Hmm im also interested, i have a 4670k coming from ebay. Is 1.25v usually good for 4.5ghz on these chips or would that be considered a better than average chip?

On a 4670k I believe that makes it average or maybe a little better assuming it's 100% stable. Devil's Canyon clocked a bit better for most of us but clock for clock there isn't really a difference in performance. I don't recall the minimum vcore for mine at 4.5Ghz since that was years ago but I remember setting it a bit higher at 1.25v to round it off. I've been running 4.7Ghz with 1.3v for a few years now.

1.25V and 4.5GHz is actually rather low, I did 1.26V and 4.6GHz. And believe me, when I say bumping cache up gave me only worse performance and stability issues then I mean it. If course, the decrease was minimal but it deffinitely wasn't an increase.

Thanks for all the help and info.. white owl tomorow I will test it with p95 and hwinf and hopefully you can help me out.

What ratio did you have your cache set to?
My cache just works at 4.3, tried 4.4 and started having problems and went back. Either way I wouldn't leave it stock, get what you can and call it a day.

It's kinda hard to say what's average though. I've never seen anyone else do 5ghz with a turd air cooler so I assumed mine was decent.

My old delidded 4670k wouldn't hit 4.6Ghz (using a 125 strap) without 1.5V, and needed 1.46V for 4.5Ghz Obviously lost that lottery, so I hope you win.
