Laptop for gaming.

My budget is $250 and I can stretch the budget a bit further if necessary. I do not know what min specs I should be looking for in a gaming laptop that is able to play a game like GTA V on normal settings. It would be nice if the laptop is new but I am willing to settle for second hand or refurbed. Any specific model suggestions?

You're not going to get a new laptop for ~$250 that can play GTA V, hit up Craigslist and eBay.

Wouldn't go any lower than the Acer Aspire 5 if you're trying to play GTA V on it.

At least a dual core with HT and a MX510 is my recommendation. MX510 can handle GTA V okay at 1080p.

Even second hand sounds like a stretch, but keep an eye on the usual second hand sites for anything with a GTX850M ,GTX950M, MX150, GTX860M or GTX960M.

From what I can see there's not much under $400, but good luck with the search.

There is, but then you're looking at $520 for a refurbished one(with a slightly better processor), or $560 new.

It makes more sense to just install an SSD yourself.

I'd still recommend looking at used ones though, much more performance for your money.

Here's one with an I7-4700HQ and 870M for $400

Hey there i think your budget is little low i sugget you to increase your budget and one more thing i suggest you is you have to buy new laptop instead of second hand or used. Because second hand laptops did not work well. If you can increase your budget upto $500 than you have many options like Acer Aspire E 15, Core i3 8th gen, 6GB Dual Channel or Lenovo 330, Core i5 8th gen, 8GB DDR3 or ASUS VivoBook F510UA, Core i5 8th gen, 8GB DDR4 you can check other laptops on link below.

Can those play GTA V @ 1080p? and are those listed in order of performance from left to right, 850M being the worst and 960M being the best?

As far as I'm aware, no. But you weren't asking me.

There was a deal available the other day at WalMart on a Ryzen 5 quad core/8 thread laptop with vega 8 graphics for $350. Benches showed it as being capable of 1080p 60fps in most modern games on medium settings. That's a phenomenal deal and probably as good as you can do on such a tight budget. Maybe even finding one of those second hand would put you in the $250 ballpark.

link to product page?

thanks I am not familiar with ryzen or vega since they are relatively new.

Are they usually cheaper than the intel/nvidia counterpart equivalents?

Cheaper? All I know is they are at the moment. The laptop I mentioned uses last year's processor meaning the price was reduced from $650 to $350 to clear out inventory for the upcoming new models.

Price has gone up $50 since I had it in my cart. Still a good deal though.
