Dell Latitude 2120 laptop - install windows 10 or windows 7?

I am getting an old laptop for my cousin to use for shopping online and excel spreadsheet. which is pretty much what she will only use it for. it has no OS but was wondering if it is better to install windows 10 or windows 7, from a performance perspective?

If it doesn't have an SSD I wouldn't even consider Windows 10. Windows 7 is usable on an HDD, Windows 10 is a nightmare. Past that, use whatever you prefer. Won't make a bit of difference if all you're doing is Excel and internet shenanigans.

If the laptop is only used for shopping and various minor "office" tasks, windows 7 is much easier to deal with.

No need to deal with windows 10 randomly causing issues.

Install windows 7, make sure to do all the security updates (no need to go nuts and install ALL available updates, many do not even mess with what you want to do), and then be sure to run the Windows Experience Index if you have an SSD. This will tell windows to do further adjustments with the SSD, such as verifying TRIM is enabled, and prefetch is limited. Windows is supposed to do this during installation if it detects an SSD, but running the WEI thing enforces it.

to find it, find control panel in the start menu and click on performance information and tools

I cannot seem to find any Windows 7 x64 drivers for the laptop.

So I am going to install Windows 10 first because it should be a breeze to install drivers, etc and if there are no driver installation issues, I will briefly replicate what she would be doing to hopefully not be sluggish. If it is or I encounter crashing and freezing during the test run, I will switch to Windows 7.

Hi,
No win-7 32 bit drivers ?
https://www.dell.com/support/home/us...e-2120/drivers

You'd have to install 7 first otherwise doubt 10 will allow it in anything but a vm and that's not going to happen on a 32 bit system or low spec's machine.

to find windows 7 drivers, sometimes you need to look for VISTA drivers. They work in 90% cases

However, most of the dell laptop drivers are embedded into windows 7 for basic functionality, such as chipset, sata, audio, and wireless.

If you can get windows 7 installed, you can simply go to device manager, look for hardware ID's in the driver properties window (right clicking device->properties) and do a quick google search

The Dell latitude 2120 was too slow. So I went ahead and bought an evoo laptop. Much better.
