First time overclocking, can't wait to learn
Hi guy's and gal's.
I Just started getting into overclocking, wanted to start with a no buzz kill set up.
In the mean time, I know it is always customary to introduce one self.
I am a french canadian automotive diagnostic technician.
I use some pretty serious software for various different needs pertaining to my work, but in my home environment I tend to shy away from boosting stuff as so many disclaimers are pasted everywhere in the pc/laptop and even the cell/smartphone dept.
So my awareness arose once I saw 4g networks in cars being used in the same manner as in home or business networks.
So my intention is to be here and build a old set up and try to crank it to the max of what it is capable of.
If anyone want to help, plz do so. If any want to laugh, PLZ do so. If anyone want to prank me, I invite it as all my test stuff is decade or so old and I don't give a flying f it it fries. This is just a beginners tug into what may lead to interesting results in the long run.
Thx in advance, and I apologize for bad english, french canadian is my first language.
I hope this will be fun.
Regards, Nick from quebec canada
your English is better than a lot of people's on this forum, no need to apologize :p
Hello, Nick, and welcome to OCN.
Welcome to the forums Nick! :thumb:
thx for the welcomes.
Well guy's and gall's,
I thought I would post back on my progress.
Thx to the guides here and some basic info given in another thread here, I was able to get 4.01ghz out of it on CM212 evo air and it went to 85c.
So I guess this means a no go for 4.4ghz with same chip.
I don't know if I can post some screenshot since I am a newbie, but I will try.
If any numbers jump out as wrong, plz tell me what I am doing wrong to get such high temps.
I also thought a screen shot of speccy would help some of you to give tips on cheap add ons I can do to this old build I purchased and built myself a decade or so ago.
I think I may have done something wrong with the ram setting. Cuz it changed some how. I bought 8gigs of corsair vengeance which was sold and written on the box as being 1666. But speccy is seeing it as 572(8-8-8-20)
Is there an equation or something I am missing?
Again, as usual with newbies, you need to be patient. I am 27yrs now in the automotive trade, so I know what mentoring a padawan involves.
Also, I wanted to thank "the Pook" Your settings worked.
But I probably missed something as ram is in numbers I am not understanding.
Maybe you could post back when you got some time and help me. I will help you on my site for your car troubles if ever you need be. I can be found here. http://batauto.com/
Look for nickb2
AGain, thx in advance. You helped me get it to 4+g. Maybe we can hit 4.4ghz if I liquid cool it.
a tip mate-- as someone who has been on here...4-5 yrs now? I know, my post count says I've posted "5 times," thank you to whichever company f00ked that up for me) there ARE NO GIRLS ON THE INTERNET unless you are on..."mumsnet"or some sort of fashion thing.
But aside from that, I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I used to have the company Puget put together all my PCs (they were amazing and did great work, but it wasn't worth an extra $2.5k). Thus I'm here with you and the other newbs, after 4-5 yrs, to learn how to overclock my CPU and GPU. Sort of exciting. If you have Amazon Prime (which I DO NOT suddenly Have a request for you lads as to which screw I ought use to bind my MB to my case. PLEASE IGNORE THE POST COUNT THAT SAYS I HAVE 8 OR 9 POSTS OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT, IN ACTUALLY I HAVE NEAR TO 1K, I LOT THEM ALL WHEN I LOST MY USERNAME. My manual ( for the ASUS WS x299 Pro) does not tell me, and (thank you, amazon) last week they locked me out of the account over 32.44 cents. i know I don't owe it, but offered to pay it anyway: NO. So not only can I not buy from them, which is in itself no great tragedy, but my audible books (which I very stupidly did not DL) and also all the different computer books of various types I'd have access to for free with Prime, all gone know. Or they are still there, but I cannot get them.
Thus I am screwed.
OH, btw, my specs-- ONE- i-9940, 64 GB RAM, 6 TB SSD, 11 TB "normal, " Thermaltake 1,400, GameStorm 360, 2080ti ,
TWO- i-920, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Eva 1,200, Gamestorm, Titan V,
5 monitors, 4 of them over 33 inches. 2 additional computer cases I'm working on...... tody going to try to clean things yo enough so I can gwt it all into one pic.....
Out of all that text I think there’s a question asking what screw to mount the MB. Those screws should of come with the case, your MB won’t be helpful. Generally Motherboards and other circuit boards often use a #6-32 UNC standoff. So you should be able to replace those screws easily.
