[PGGamesN] AMD has “no software ecosystem that’s meaningful” without Intel

While talking about Intel’s new software strategy Koduri took time out to look at what its competition is doing in that field, with very thinly veiled references to both Nvidia and AMD. Without mentioning either by name, but with some very obvious colour palettes used, he referenced what Nvidia is doing around its GPUs, and poured not a little scorn on what his erstwhile employer is doing itself.

He was not always Intel’s Raja Koduri, but once a big noise at AMD, and as such you’d think he would have some very specific insights into the inner workings of the red team. “[AMD] has two architectures,” he says, “no memory or interconnect strategy that I know of, and the size of the developer ecosystem is tiny. In fact, without our invaluable software contributions they have no software ecosystem that’s meaningful.”
Infinity Fabric and ROCm... sure make things up. Sure UPI's latency is lower than Infinity Fabric when connecting dies but they still have an interconnect.

I guess Intel will be bringing chiplets to the market before AMD...?????

Ah, the same thing they came up with, when the first RyZens hit. Along with the Glue. 0 originality.

Guess we officially know why Navi went monolithic. Nobody mentioned to Raja that infinity fabric existed.

as a PC gamer, intels software doesn't even matter to me at all, and I suspect that is true for most of us.

AMD has done sooo much catching up in the hardware department lately, and thats what people want them to do. If things keep going like this for AMD, it won't be too long before we see some very mature products along with catered software to go with it. For now its noteworthy that a hardware company like intel is trying to talk itself up with software, now that things are neck and neck with AMD.

Oh Raja, honey.

Sure, Intel's just talking up software even though they have one of the fastest Linux distributions.

Even AMD's hardware benefits from their OS.

They're talking about roadmaps not existing solutions. And Raja and Keller, both Intel employees, started rocm and infinity fabric respectively. I doubt this was a mistatement

They dont got the HW so they attack with SW. Same thing Nvdia pulled year ago vs ATi. Their drivers are superior when they did not have faster HW. Intel is in damage control now.

I'm honestly not bias because I've been an intel fanboi in the past but have built a personal system with AMD. Right now intel hold the lead in performance but AMD is not far behind and with software optimizations ryzen could finally be the first class hardware we want it to become.
