I've mentioned this in other threads, but I believe you are paying extra for better silicon with the 3800 vs the 3700, some people assume they are the same chip, just a higher internal TDP ID.

I just yesterday started to tinker a bit with the manual OC when I watched a video showing SiliconLottery selling a 3800x for $600+ that was 4.3 all core at 1.3V. I thought that did not seem unreasonable to achieve for such a high price. Tested it on mine, no problem, completely stable, much lower temps than auto everything. So, I went up a step, I never tried another voltage I went right to 1.32V 4.4 all cores. So far completely stable, best part 59C under load, I was hitting 69C on auto everything. I have not tried any higher yet, but I have plenty of voltage and thermal headroom.

I am curious if any 3700X people can do similar, not a pissing contest, I truly would like to know if we are paying for silicon or just a higher TDP ID and internal clock markers.

The SiliconLottery bins are AVX stable. So if your using it for gaming a 4.3 AVX bin should work at 4.5 for gaming. Or it really depends on how stable you need it.

A bit of a curiosity that I only gained 15 points in Cinebench R20 between 4.3 and 4.4 all cores. I would have expected a bit more. Temp maxes out at 65C on Cinebench run. This is a custom loop 2X 360MM radiators, though it doesn't seem like this level cooling would be required at 1.32V. Like I said, I was getting higher temps on auto everything, it would max all core at 4.275Ghz and hit 4.525 on rare occasions on singlecore

Understood, I just don't think that is much of a lottery for a 3800X, mine Auto everything runs all cores to 4.275 on its own. I am sure it would be AVX stable at 4.3. 4.4 would be a harder call. This is all on my X470 board, I have a X570 from MSI that I have not tested much, not of fan of the kiddieland BIOS

It is entirely possible that you won the lottery. Your sample size of 1 doesn't really mean a whole lot for 3800x's in general. The fact that SL had to bin some of them at 4.2 should be proof enough that not all of them are as capable as others.

Sitting on a 3800X also but I've needed a little more voltage on my chip to be able to run 4.4Ghz in Cinebench R20 ~1.344V does the trick as read by the CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN) but I need probably around ~1.350V to be more on the safe side for consistent stability I think. 1.325V isn't enough I've noted several times for AVX. Just keep getting reboots too often.

Though I've had a little more trouble with temperatures here hitting 80C+ easily.
Maybe I did 2 bad mounts with the TIM application.

I have 1x360 2x120mm 45mm radiators in my loop.

For CPU-Z @ 4400Mhz 5865.2 | 544.6 https://valid.x86.fr/bm1eil

Less multi more single in comparison.

Regarding your 15cb point improvement at 4.4, try maybe 4.35. Steve at GN often talks about clock stretching, in that 4.4 might actually be slower than 4.35 due to clock stretching.
Overclocking for performance is trying to find the optimum point of performance with the available TDP and architecture.
That does not always mean its the highest frequency which i think is what you might be experiencing.

I suspect a 4.35 or 4.375 will beat the 4.4 run.

He asked for 3700x results to compare to his 3800x, the sample size would still be 1.
