Next week Intel is launching its high-end desktop 10th Gen Core-X series. The processors codenamed Cascade Lake-X will utilize Skylake architecture manufactured in the 14nm process technology.

The most important news is that the Intel Core-X series will much cheaper than the previous generation. The cost of a single-core will drop to AMD’s level and therefore it will be comparable to Threadripper 2000. The price per single core will drop to 54-59 USD depending on the SKU, while the last generation was starting at 99.

Annnd there you have it. Intel's slashing their prices by half to compete with AMD.

If price cuts are true, glad AMD is back. Shows how much Intel was charging us all when there was no competition for years.

You have my attention.

The all-core turbos are horrendous, especially on the 10 core..... 3.7ghz base can only boost up to 3.8ghz on all cores? Yawn.... even the 9900 KFC finger linkin' good edition looks like it would perform better even in multi-core applications with that 5.0Ghz all 8 core boost....Don't even get me started on single or 2~4 threaded applications which is practically most gaming.

...and AMD's next-gen HEDT Treadripper 3 is STARTING at 24 cores. Yikes.

carlhil2 10-01-2019 04:33 PM

Going by price, CSL-X won't even be compared to 24 + core TR3 but the 3900x/3950x, amiright?

Wizzzard 10-01-2019 05:20 PM

This is great.

I'm hoping I can an 18 core chip to the following config on water:
1-2 cores @ 5.2 GHz
1-2 cores @ 5.0 GHz
remaining cores @ 4.8 GHz

Might have to disable some cores depending on temps.

Should have better single cpu performance and gaming than the 3900X and 3950X and have the ability to enable cores (or throttle down the higher cores) for when I want to do serious multi-threading work.

The 18-Core does not look bad but how to cool.

Well Intel seems keen on sending me a check for my dead 9900X so I guess I'll get the 18 core now lol.
