Ryzen 3700X PBO2 or Manual Overclock?

1 Attachment(s)
I finally got ABBA for my MSI X470 Gaming Plus so figured I'd see if it was as good as a lot of reviewers say. Most say to use PBO2 and not fool with manual overclock. In Cinebench R20 MT the PBO2 hit 1.45v but only 77c. The manual OC of 4300 + 1.325V hit 76c. In single the PBO2 did 1.35v vs my 1.325. The PBO2 stayed around 4.1ghz multicore rendering and 4.35ghz single.

Here are the scores:

So is using PBO2 worth it to keep Cool and Quiet or is the extra 200 R20 multicore tell me to manaully oc to 4.3 ?

you already see the result and temperature why you still say "PBO2 to keep Cool and Quiet"? manual OC got higher score and 1 degree lower, so clear it's better than the PBO. as long as your manual OC is stable, keep the setting. and you can see with Ryzen master, even with manual OC set fixed temperature the CPU will go lower freq and voltage when no load.

Manual manual and more manual is all I'll say. Seriously my 3900X running a manual overclock runs cooler than running it stock, not even PBO.

I'm on a $17 Gammax 400 and a cheap MSI x470 Gaming Plus

I been keeping it manual overclock due to the PBO2 hitting 1.495v during Cinebench R20

Can you show your max voltage and temps during the run? I was backwards in multicore the PBO2 hits 1.35-1.4v and in sinigle core it hits 1.45-1.495v

Single core is supposed to be pushing more voltage to hit the higher clocks. All core is lower voltage due to power/temp demands of all core.

For some reason with SS disabled I get lower multi-thread scores in CB r20, quite a bit (4879) and with it about 5000. That's pretty strange as CB r20 can't push any cores over 4.35GHz while Geekbench benchmark can push any of 3 preferred cores over 4.45GHz. With SS enabled "Golden" core hits 4.4GHz and rest up to 4.375GHz.
Under load voltage stays at 1.325v and temps mid 60sC.
First picture is with SS enabled and second disabled, third one is 4.35GHz OC.

What do you mean by SS disabled? What's SS

Possibly spread spectrum.

On topic, I'd go with PBO. My multicore results are within margin of error and my single core will boost up to 4425 on my 3700x with PBO enabled. Single core load temps are in the upper 50's while multicore can typically hit high 60's mid 70's (360mm CLC).

Don't waste time trying to manually oc the core, focus on getting the highest stable IF/fclock.

PBO2 with a core undervolt is how I roll.
