[Tweaktown] New Battlefield to release by 2022 on PS5, Project Scarlett

"Today EA confirmed the next Battlefield game will release in its FY2022 timeline, which is from April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022, firmly in the second year of next-gen consoles. No official details were announced, but EA did tout its investment in new development technologies so expect DICE's Frostbite engine to push next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett to its limits, complete with native ray tracing, 4K gaming, and high frame rate action."

I am actually quite happy EA/dice arent going to be releasing a new battlefield next year. it has become quite clear i think to a few developers that developing a AAA game in about 2 years is becoming harder and harder.
Im really trying to be hopeful that having an extra year means a more polished game. also, it being a year later will hopefully mean that it is developed solely for the ps5/xbox scarlett and not the ps4/xbox 1 which should simplify development.

I also hope its built in a modern/near future setting and actually can release content on more frequent basis. i know im a dreamer

good news i suppose

pretty sure we're seeing the death of crunch time in AAA. They have the money to do it either way, so why not the right way?

DICE could do us a huge favor and finish BFV first before work on the next iteration. These guys don't stay idle. Expect a new Battlefront in 2020.

Sweet, a 2022 re-skin of a 20 year old game *roll eyes

There is still 2020 for current-gen.

When IW get's their act together and polish up their Ground War game mode that release date might get bumped up a bit.

Modern day or bust. They've got a lot of work to do to earn their players back after how bad BF1 and BFV were.

If we can get something in the same vein as Bad Company or BF3 we might have a chance of getting something that isn't terrible.

or future :D

I've been asking for a 2142 reboot for ages (or at least ever since they killed off the community-run revival 2142 servers).

BF1 was good but BFV was a sad re-skin cash-grab with some NVIDIA cash thrown in to make it the RTX launch title for some reason. Hopefully they take their time and do it well.
