The new top-model this year is accompanied by the new Snapdragon 765 and 765G SoCs. 865 on TSMC and 765 on Samsung, does this mean that samsungs node isnt as good as expected and theyve had to outsource?

from what i remember, TSMC's is high-density low-power, Samsung's on the other hand is low-density high-power.

Biggest problem with the 8 series snapdragon has been heat since the 808 days. And the heat issue is only strengthening with each successive update. Razer & Asus both have novel designs to address this but I'm not seeing that from Samsung or any other Android device MFR's. In fact a buddy of mine has the S10+ and he loves it aside from the device being uncomfortable to hold while he plays a game.

So this is neat and all, but it looks to me like the dev's are focusing on 5G and not addressing the long running issue they've had. Maybe it's not as easy as it looks to tackle?

how would this benefit devices like Switch? I feel like Nintendo needs to deliver a proper switch replacement, where the dock does additional processing so you can upscale to 4K60.

The fact that entry level SoCs like the Snapdragon 4XX series are so powerful is nothing short of awesome. :D I remember when the Snapdragon 800 first launched, and the 600 and 400 were simply waaay too slow to even be considered for cheap phones. Now? The SD 450 is actually super viable due to improvements in all areas.

Got me excited for phones for the first time ever!

There is also capacity. Samsung are starting to make a lot of chips for different companies. Themselves, nvidia, intel, qualcomm, broadcom, IBM. And on top of that there is a big trade war between s. korea and japan, which also makes ordering chips from TSMC preferred to some companies. And of course TSMC are first to push EUV 7nm+.

well if new SoCs where made cheaper than the dated SoCs then they'd switch into it.
one way to do this is to bin chips, another is a more lightweight SKU.

speaking of lightweight SKUs, i wish they'd make a low performance, ultra-low power SoC.
e.g. using their example for instance:
2x Cortex A77 @ 2.42GHz 2x256KB pL2
4x Cortex A55 @ 1.80GHz 4x128KB pL2
Memory Controller 2x 16-bit channels

slow? yes, but it would be really energy efficient.
