Well I have seen several ViewSonic monitors in person and they seem to be really nice. I am looking for a 17" with good enough response time for gaming and other graphics work like computer animation. I was checking this one out:

And I was a bit confused as to why this one (which seemed to be the same) was more expensive :

I am hoping to not spend more thant 350 on this thing (around 250 would be ideal). I have also heard good things about Acer monitors too. Any recommendations?

If you can afford it, the 329 dollar viewsonic would be well worth it with the active matrix and 500:1 contrast ratio. Youd really notice the difference coming from a 350:1 ratio.

limited desk space. one of my roomies has a crt and it is a tight fit on the desks and my other roomiehas a viewsonic lcd and it fits rather nicely.

CRT has the risk of getting cancer from them b/c it operates by pullin in electron from the screen there for it has a lot of radiation also the CRT monitors create a lot of heat and doesn't dissapate them well . also crt uses alot more electricity than lcd. I have seen an lcd with a response time of 8ms by samsung so there is no point in which why crt is better besides the pricing

i know lcd's are better than crt's. i just needs some suggestions on affordable, decent models. i would even be happy with a 15". i just want a solid monitor for less than 350.

lol thats not a good reason not to get a CRT... that should be very low priortiy

I myself have a sony, but it was more then you would like to spend. I was reading PC gamer in hard stuff and they like the Dell UltraSparp1704FP.They said it was a grest gamer LCD

I have a LG Flatron L1750SQ and it is one beautiful monitor, viewsonics are rather nice too
