How to raid 0 on 2 x SSD or 2 x HDD as primary boot drive for installation of OS window on X99 system.

It is not easy to raid 0 as bootable window installation drive on X99 system especially ASUS Mobo . Lot of plp encounter Asus mobo unable to recognize boot drive after raid. Dont worry …. Here is the solution, full proof solution. X99 is capable to raid 6 drive.

Just follow what i say and dont be smart to deviate by your own way.

1. It is better to secure erase your SSD to factory setting (option)
2. reboot and format every single ssd to primary disk with window installation disk.
3. reboot and change AHCI to raid mode .
4. reboot again and pressing CTRL I to enter raid setup mode.
5. Setup raid disk and exit.
6. boot from yr window installation disk
7. last you will be able to see your raid disk in combination as primary bootable.
8. load driver – be sure is the latest raid driver – asus will provide on the installation disk
9. find raid directory –> IRST –>driver –> 64bit
10. it will show only one driver. Do not chose this driver. instead uncheck botton option of showing non regard driver.
11. there will be a list of driver appear.
12. chose driver ended with iaStorAc.inf.
13. load the driver. after ignore all error message and continue window installation

you have done

do remenber to install the program IRST.

  1. Just a friendly note. While using SSDs in RAID 0 may be faster, it may shorten the life of the drives because they aren't able to use TRIM (only in AHCI mode). I struggle with this, because I have a lot of drives and I would prefer to RAID my hard drives, but not my SSDs.
Samsung SSDs are my favorite, and I really like the Samsung Magician application that uses some RAM to increase your data significantly. Unfortunately, it will only work with one Samsung SSD drive in your system. I recommend making it your boot drive (lol)
    Comments welcome!

    – Fusion

  2. Intel raid is build to be fast and wear off fast on stripping mode 128 kb raid0. But when I put on benchmarks test raid is always faster unless ssd using Nvme technology just like Intel 750 series ssd.

It depends on how you treat your data and seperate hd can be use also.

  3. ssd's are to expensive and small for me to gamble with one.(herd there unreliable) but some day soon i plan on getting a second Cheetah 15k.7 and my 6gb/s SAS controller should be coming in the mail in a few days. then i shall try my first raid setup. sadly none of my scsi controllers have supported raid, and never had 2 sata drives that were fast.
btw do ssd's have heat sinks? because every 10k hdd i have had has had part of the frame shaped as a heatsink.

  4. True. you cannot raid on PCIE lane , only sata raid capability yes. You can try raid on HDD. But technology change fast. NVME pcie SSD is incredible Fast and cheap. Intel 750 series PCIE SSD recomended
