Update 4: Swapped Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Boost Flex from server to this and 7870 moved to 8350 workstation and replaced rocketfish PSU with Corsair RMx 550 after it burned itself into ATX connector on board
Update 3: Got some 16GB Crucial Ballistix Elite 1866, and replaced Hyper 212+ Blade Master fan with Cougar CFV12H to be quieter.
Update 2: Picked up a i7-860, ASRock P55 Deluxe3, Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600Mhz, and MSI Radeon HD 7870 Ghz Edition
This thing started with some throw away parts from work Pentium Dual Core E2180 and some DDR2 Memory. I only bought a Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3L for $60 (open box at Microcenter), Radeon HD 4670 for $80, Thermaltake v3 case for $30, Rocketfish Modular 750w $30, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ for $30. So for $230 I had the start of ghetto budget build that was overclocked to 4.2Ghz. Not bad I thought. I haven't built a computer since 2000 (still using an OG Antec SX1040 for my media server). So this was fun.
Now it's a Core 2 Duo E7400 overclocked to 4 Ghz, Samsung 128GB 830 Boot drive, AMD Radeon HD 6770 (recognized as 5770 wonder if the DirectX 11 features in the 6770 to differentiate from the 5770 are active). Extra intake and exhaust fans.
Didn't really use this computer much as it was just for fun but now that my daughter is into Minecraft, photo and video editing it is actually getting some use.
