My dad is running an old dell tower that I'm pretty sure we bought somewhere around 1998. It's impressive how long he's kept it running, but its time to get him a machine that doesn't take twenty minutes to play a youtube video (but for some reason can handle half-life 2...not perfectly, major lag, but still).
