....NVLink combines the memory of each card to create a single, larger memory pool.

Petersen explained that this would not be the case for GeForce RTX cards. The NVLink interface would allow such a use case, but developers would need to build their software around that function....

So it would not be the case, yet it would allow such use case... such which one is it? Kinda contradicts itself.

And when Petersen says, it does not "automagically double frame buffer, it is more nuanced than that" - i guess on Quadros and Teslas it is magic, then? And why, as a consumer, i should care how its achieved in the first place? All that matters to me is, that is works.

Last i checked, RTX TITAN was about 10 frames more than Ti in BFV. I expect a much larger gap for the Super.

peterson never said combine. though the NVlink talk starts at 38:00, it "tickles the buffer" specifically mention at 40:30 and does not necessarily combine them at 43:00, discussing why that would be a bad idea.

Spoiler!

TLDW: latency issues.

i'm glad thats all sorted now.

Gonna keep my GTX 1080 for a while

So the RTX 2080 Super is faster than a RTX 2080 Ti now?
From what I understand, it's the same thing roughly. It sounded like the only new chips were the 2070 Ti SUPER and 2080Ti Super, which won't launch...at launch?

This just sounds like Nvidia is pricing/re-naming it's current lineup in order to make room for the new chips that are yet to come. So the Super's are a refresh/revision, except for the Ti versions that will launch later. In other words, make the same chips, bump the model names down to make room for others

I am also pessimistic about how e-tailers and pre-built pc makers will bungle this naming convention, and how consumers will be confused by it. They could make 20x5 versions, and that might clear things up, but they won't do that.

So....meh. No hype shall sway me! I hope.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. - Proverbs 4:7

I get the feeling we won't see a new consumer gpu until fall of 2020 between this refresh and the fact that the volta replacement (amphere?) hasn't been released.

this is why I keep saying i'm waiting on 2021.

gonna hawk my 2x 1080ti+blocks for $500 each, grab a used 2080ti, n call it a day for two days. We'll know the display market response to 4K120hz by then so it makes it a perfect time to build a dream machine.

Last I saw was that the announcement was supposed to be the 21st of June, So this coming friday.

"NVIDIA’s SUPER Summer starts on 6/21
Okay, disclaimer here, while I have been told that NVIDIA is preparing their announcement for 6/21, keep in mind they can move this date around a bit all the way up to July. That said, you are looking for an announcement pretty close to the start of summer, and this is likely going to be it. NVIDIA knew about AMD’s Navi GPU launch and the SUPER series has been designed to shed all the premium/margins Turing was enjoying and get very aggressive with positioning. Green is finally serious."
