Orbitz Worldwide Inc has found that people who use Apple Inc's Mac computers spend as much as 30 percent more per night on hotels, so the online travel agency is starting to show them different, and sometimes costlier, travel options than Windows visitors see, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
Orbitz executives said the online travel agency is experimenting with showing different hotel offers to Mac and PC visitors, but said the company isn't showing the same room to different users at different prices, the Journal reported. They also pointed out that users can opt to rank results by price.
Well naturally someone that spends $3K+ on a computer is probably pretty wealthy and will spend more money on a hotel. The guy using a $300 walmart computer probably isn't going to get a $500/night hotel room lol.

That really depends on the person. I could totally see someone buying their eMachines laptop, then turning around and saying, "With the money I saved, I can sponsor an orgy! After all--a laptop will only last a year or three. Hep-C, now--that lasts forever."
So...Orbitz is behind this? Why are these sensationalist titles allowed...I came in here expecting some kind of Apple-Orbitz deal with higher prices for same rooms or hiding cheaper rooms from Mac users.
All that I got from this is that Orbitz assumes Apple users are less interested in the "cheapest" price because they use Apple products? I guess that's just easier on them as a company than actually looking any deeper.

^What he said. Kinda obvious that there are more budget conscious people in the PC camp. Whats next? They start recommending cheaper accommodations to Linux users
Edit: Or ask you to allow a computer hardware check before giving a result. Oh Mr.Ivy bridge user right this way. We would like to recommend you a nice 5 star hotel
Your user agent will say what OS you use... http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
A simple script can detect and analyze it and pass it on to whatever - in this case a room sorter.

thats a terrible arguement lol. I spent quite a bit on mine and im not going to waste $500/night on a hotel room. Second i know a friend who has some old school mac they got used for like $300 and they couldnt afford a $500/night room if they wanted to
What about guys like me? Someone who got a mac for free and would have never bought one brand new anyway? What about the point zero zero zero one percent!?
I'm not saying mac users are more inclined to listen and believe advertising but logic says they are because they bought into the mac hype/hipster culture.

Could have to do with the fast a lot of business people have mac book airs and use hotels from their company credit card a lot more. Just a thought...

That is pretty smart how they programmed the more expensive locations to show to Mac users. Mac users spend more money and do not care about value very much. If something is more pleasing, they will buy it. Richer people should be able to easily afford slightly more expensive locations and technological devices.
I need a cheap facebook computer, I'll buy a MBP for $3.5k.
Why doesn't Apple cahrge $500 more for each laptop and offer $500 bucks for a family in need in africa (There are tons I know, just like all the folks who buy Apple products)
Good implementation of demographic research by Orbitz.
Saw a few other sensationalist articles on this in google news, it's just marketing nothing crazy.
Lol hate to say it, but this is smart. People still have the option, they just tailor it to different people based on what they already know....If theyre going to grossly overpay for computers then the chances are their stupid enough to pay more for a 5 star hotel instead of a 4 or 3...etc.

I'm pretty sure 90% of people on this forum paid more for a computer that has more power than they need.
