Hey guys,

So i just finished high school, and to reward myself for my good job i decided to buy a new gaming pc!
rolleyes.gif

I'd like this build to stay under 1400$ and if possible between 1200$ and 1300$.
I already have monitor 1080p( although i was thinking of buying a 1440p-1600p one, so feel free to suggest one, but it wouldn't go towards the build cost). mouse, keyboard, OS..

The only thing that i need that you don't mount on your mobo is the place where you mount the mobo, the case.

So i was thinking about something like this :

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($132.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($85.98 @ Outlet PC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($265.91 @ Newegg)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($264.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1121.83
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-08-08 12:09 EDT-0400)

You may note i have no cpu cooler or case, I intend to buy the NZXT kraken x60 or the swiftech h220.
As for the PSU, i don't know the first thing about PSU's so again, feel free to suggest a better/cheaper/ more cost effective one.

Last but not least, i also thought about going the GtX 780 route and get either an ACX or a classy to have myself some unlocked voltage fun

Oh yeah, I can suggest a better PSU. The Gold-rated HX650 only has 2 x 6+2-pin PCI-E connectors while almost all other good 650W PSUs have 4. What's more, the Gold-rated HX650 is the SeaSonic G Series internally and that PSU has 4 x 6+2-pin PCI-E connectors, so I don't know what Corsair was thinking.

Speaking of which, the 650W SeaSonic G Series itself is $99.99 with free shipping available, and then it's $74.99 after the promo code of EMCXMXP44 (ending 8/12, next Monday), and then there is also a $15 rebate which eventually makes it $59.99. If anyone can beat this, then I'll eat my computer.

I'd go with a 780! Great card for the price.

As for CPU cooling, if you're in the USA you won't get an H220 anymore, apparently it broke some US copyrights and can't be manufactured or sold in the US anymore.

Oh, and if budget allows, spurge for an SSD! It'll improve your life a great amount.

What about the rest? Does it seem fine to you guys? And the 780vs 760 sli which one would you go with?
Depends really, do you think you might upgrade in the future? Upgrade as in SLI 780.
Personally, I would pick the SLI 760 because I know I'll never upgrade it. (I sell my computer each year, no time to upgrade)

I think I'd recommend him to the 780 though.

As you can see, all 7990's are reference designs, the only things different with them is basically that every brand has their own logo on the fans.

With the 780 there are aftermarket coolers such as a Gigabyte Windforce3, which dissipate more heat and are much quieter than a 7990 would be.

Yeah, i don't think i'll upgrade either.. i'll just sell it and buy some new ones ^^

still, i don't know.. i have never tried Sli before and i hear about the SLi problems and drivers that arrive late and unplayable games in SLi.. i don't know if i'd like to experience those.. are those problems still common?

Edit: Spelling mistake

If you do experience problems in certain games, wouldn't you be able to play that game on a single card instead? A single 760 shouldn't have trouble playing games on a 1080p screen, 1440/1600p is a different matter though, might have to turn town some settings.

If you're in the US the Z87 UD4H was and I think still is $50-60 on Amazon.

Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking, since I don't have a 1440p and after thinking about it I won't have one in the near future, should I just go with a 770? It should be enough to max anything at 1080 with 2x/4x AA right?

Edit: spelling...

You can get two 7970's for the price of one GTX 780 now with huge discounts on Newegg:

$299.99 after rebate, so actually less than a decent 780. Flash the GPU with GHz Edition bios, and overclock extensively. Win/Win situation. If you are concerned you don't need that much power, a single overclocked 7970 will be more than enough for 1080p.

Or 2x 7950s. $209 for a ref. MSI one.

Problem is the reference MSI 7950's run incredible hot and have barely any overclocking headroom. Many are also voltage locked, which defeats the purpose of going with an AMD GPU.

Also, OP, noticed in your build you included 8GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz memory for around $70. Right now at Newegg, you can get 2400MHz G.Skill Ares for $66.30
