£160 for a sound card and headset.

Christmas is just around the corner and the My mum and dad are giving me some cash and so is my brother. So, I would like to get a soundcard and headset because people say that a soundcard is so much better than onboard audio and you wouldn't beleive it until you got one. So i think i am going to go for it and get a nice headset to go with it.

So what will I be using these for?

I mainly game. I like FPS shooters like COD, L4D and counterstrike.

I also listen to music, I really like bass as i listen to dubstep, drum and bass, little bit of hip hop and i also listen to a little bit of rock.

What do you guys recommend?

HD555s
ASUS Xonar D2
The HD555s really aren't that great with bass. ATH-A700 would be better. If that isn't the closed version, correct me people

Edit: http://www.limitedgoods.com/itemView...ogleUK_InStock if you want a shop where you can keep it in budget. Might be able to find it cheaper, idk.

If you are looking for headphones with good bass, the Beyerdynamic DT770 are considered the king of bass of closed headphones.

Yeah I like bass but I don't want it to drown out everything else. Just want a nice balance but i do like bass alot.

Due to explosions in game, gunfire and also the drum and bass / substep i listen to.

Hope this helps a little.

If you could use www.scan.co.uk or overclockers.co.uk would be nice.

When your spirit is floating down that tunnel towards the light, you know what's behind the light? It's not God, it's me. And I'm gonna kick your poncy soul all the way back down the tunnel till you choke on your own fudged up ribs. NOW, WAKE THE FUDGE UP!

H555's or A700's will be good choice for headset.

A bit of Caspa is always good

The Xonar D2 as suggested is fine for a soundcard.
Xonar DX isn't very good for base but gets the job done regardless,i'd have to assume the same for the whole xonar lineup...I would go with an Auzentech forte and keep the headphones you have already.
I'd personally go with what Swiftes sugested, the 555's and Xonar d2, you wont regret it

f'n hell.
He will regret it because the HD555 lacks bass quantity.
As with Rallymaster, I am sick of people blindly recommending the HD555, particuarly when the OP states they want bass.

Anyway:

Both from Amazon.co.uk

Ultrasone DJ1 - 80 Quid

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...C&linkCode=asm

+

Since you won't need EAX with those games:

Asus Xonar D2 (PCI) - 86.75 Quid including ship (the cheaper guy = 89% positive feedback = shady)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...&condition=new

there are cheaper prices for the Xonar D2 if you like:

Also consider the D2X, which is the same thing but has a PCI-E interface

I wasn't blindly recommending, I was giving my opinion. I've used the 555's and thought the bass wasn't too bad and they are great for gaming which the OP said they are mainly for. If you disagree that's fine but don't get on your high horse about it.

I LURVE Caspa + Rusko!

The JVC HA-RX900 will be a good closed, clean but a little bassy, headphone and is pretty good for gaming. It's pretty cheap too - $55 or less. RallyMaster suggested it and said he games best with it, as opposed to the HD595

And yeah, the Xonar DX or D2 is a good sound card.

A good headphone for pure gaming is the AD700, it's open backed but it's "anemic" with bass. Amazing soundstage and clarity for $80

Ahh god, so many choices guys... Thank you so much for the help so far, keep them coming though.

I think for the soundcard I will go for the Asus Xonar D2.

Just need to pick head phones. I'll buy a mic separately. so £80 for headphones, go!
