hello there

so after long time with RMA my ASUS GTX 690 I finaly recieved refund for it, and now I am without GPU. I decided I will ask you guys here at OCN for help. I am in need of a new graphics card. I have my budget $1000 and I want to mainly play games on my RIG. Here are the specs of it although they are in my rig sign aswell:

Intel Core i5 3570k @ 4.6 Ghz
Noctua NH - D 14
Kingston HyperX 8 GB 1600 Mhz
MSI Z77 Mpower
Corsair AX750 W
WD Caviar Black 1 TB
ASUS DVD - RW
Fractal Design Define R4
Dell U2412M

Here is picture of my RIG (at that time with my GTX 690):

ok finally to the main question: I need GPU or GPUs which would fit in my rig and have enough power to play games on it maxed out on 1200p. If I say maxed I realy mean things like 4x MSAA / HBAO+ / Alpha to Coverage etc.

As it stands in the name of the thread I will focus on playing these 3 games most: Crysis 3, Witcher 3 and BF4. Maybe sometimes I will play Metro LL / Tomb Raider / FC 3 and Witcher 2.

I have some ideas what would I get but fell free to give me any kind of reasonable options

My ideas:
1x Geforece GTX Titan

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Dual-Link-Graphics-06G-P4-2790-KR/dp/B00BIUKH04/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709593&sr=8-2&keywords=geforce+titan

or

1x MSI GTX 780 Lightning

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-N780-Lightning-Graphics-Cards/dp/B00ER8HDME/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709037&sr=8-1&keywords=msi+lightning+780

or

1x EVGA 780 Classified

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Classified-Dual-Link-Graphics-03G-P4-3788-KR/dp/B00E8PAAUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709059&sr=8-1&keywords=classified+780

or

1x ASUS GTX 780 DirectCU II

http://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Direct-GPU-Contact-Graphics-GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5/dp/B00DWV3NM6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709120&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+gtx+780

or

2x MSI 760 HAWK

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-N760-HAWK-GeForce-Graphics/dp/B00ENU2KAQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709161&sr=8-3&keywords=HAWK+760

or as last option but also more expensive

2x EVGA GTX 770 Classified with blower cooler (becouse I think 2x ACX is not good for SLI)

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Classified-Dual-Link-Graphics-04G-P4-3777-KR/dp/B00DN43X22/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377709178&sr=8-3&keywords=classified+770

I would overclock this card / these cards to a level for 24/7 and NOT for benchmarking...

Ok please tell me what do you think and point me somewhere

I'd stick with EVGA for their excellent customer service, it's hands down the best I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

I'd go with the 780 classified, or the two 770's if you don't mind dealing with SLI and its potential issues.

I'd go with a single EVGA 780 and not look back especially if you're just using it for 1080p gaming. The new Galaxy HOF 780 is also a possible choice as well if you want to try a different brand. Maybe use the extra scratch from the $1k budget for a nice 128gb or 256gb SSD.

@azefore

its 1200p - I know its not a big deal but its different so more horsepower will be needed for things like Metro LL with SSAA

@ all

well to be fair atm I am most inclined to 2x 770 classy with blower cooler but I have 2 more questions about them ?

1) can my Corsair AX750 deliver enough juice to 2x 770 classy with mild OC and i5 3570k OCed ?

and

2) anyone saw some review of 770 classy with this type of cooler ? All I can find is 770s with ACX on it

Thanks

More opinions still welcomed

The PSU is plenty for that setup (2x GTX 770 + 3570K), even if you intend to OC

Another vote for 2x 770. It should be a bit faster than your 690 which is about 20% faster than a Titan or 780. I had a single Titan and it wasn't enough to max out Crysis3 but my gtx 670 x2 could do it. At 1080P that is.

PSU will be fine for the 2x770 as for the reviews I'm having the same difficulty as well, everyone only has the ACX SC EVGA version

i am NO amd hater but still there is a little concern for me with crossfire solution. In many games it runs pretty well but still I have the feeling SLI > CF

please dont start falme war here !

on the topic: yeah I realy like the idea of 2x 770s but when I see these classys with 2x 8pin each I am still a little scared if my PSU would be enough when ocing both of them

even when I tried enermax PSU calc it advises something about 800w+ for me

None of the options seem worthwhile over a 690 to me. I'd wait and see what AMD have to offer in around a months time

OP 750w is more than enough for 2 x GTX 770. especially with 3570k at 4.6 ghz.

http://www.legitreviews.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-770-reviewed-in-2-way-sli-and-nvidia-surround_2210/11

stock GTX 770 SLI with stock core i7 3960x draws 550w.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/palit-geforce-gtx-770-jetstream-zotac-gtx-770-amp-edition_6.html#sect1

even the GTX 770 SLI OC'd with power hungry 3960x at 4.8 Ghz draws a total power of 700w.

core i5 3570k with Z77 mb is much less power consuming than core i7 3960x with X79 mb and quad channel memory. you will never need more than 750w for a core i5 with GTX 770 SLI even with OC.

bad news guys - it seems like there is no chance how to get GTX 770s classys with blower style cooler in middle europe. All I can find is with ACX.

So I am now on the edge between Titan and 780 classified. I would like to have a classy card if I find some time in future and get into the benching mood but on the other hand Titan with tweak and some mild OC will destroy all

I'd purchase neither the Titan or the 780 at full retail price. Their price/performance ratio is terrible. The reason being they have no competition on their levels. Once the 9000 series roll out, Nvidia will be forced to lower the prices of the cards to compete. Now's just about the worst time to purchase them. When a particular product's competition is about to enter the market, wait until said competition arrives. Otherwise you're doing what Nvidia wants their customers to do, that is, buying a product because they have almost no other alternative.

I'd wait if I were you. Nvidia doesn't deserve to sell their overpriced products.

I agree... Wait for the new AMD cards and see what performance is like. Even if you're partial to Nvidia for whatever reason, the prices of the Nvidia cards are going to have to drop like a rock when AMD introduces some real competition to the GPU market again..

what do you guys think ? Maybe get one and get some SSD with it or it wont be enough tomax things on 1200p ?

Or maybe crossfire these 2 bad boys ?
OP which country are you from ? when you say same price you mean to say in euros after converting from USD ? are you getting the Matrix HD 7970 for roughly 360 euros (1 euro = 1.32 USD). that seems to be a good price. a single HD 7970 overclocked to 1200 mhz should allow you to play most games at 1200p at max settings. since you have a 60 Hz monitor two HD 7970 cards is a waste for 1200p.

I am from Czech republic and now it is 20 crowns (czech curency) is 1 USD. So when our shop sells it for 9500 crowns, it is like for 475 USD and thats a good price for our region I guess...

yeah 9500 crowns for ASUS Matrix HD 7970 is a good price in your region. its much more costly in online shops in your region.

http://www.czc.cz/search?q-fulltext=HD+7970

do you really want to get Matrix. here is the sapphire HD 7970 OC for 8000 crowns. roughly USD 400

http://www.czc.cz/sapphire-hd-7970-3gb-gddr5-oc-with-boost/113771/produkt

in fact you could go for the HD 7950. best value for money. 320 - 325 USD. clock for clock HD 7950 is 5 - 7% slower than HD 7970. HD 7950(1125 mhz) = HD 7970 Ghz(1050 mhz)
