1066 vs 1366

How much difference would I notice between DDR 2 1066 vs DDR 2 1366? Is it wiser to just buy cheaper 1066 ram and overlock to 1366 speeds?

Thanks

Oh boy...

You mean DDR2 PC2-8500 1066MHz memory vs DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz memory?
No such thing as DDR2 1366, and even if there was we would need more specs than just the speed of the ram.
From 1066DDR2 to 1333DDR2, is a massive overclock in FBS, you're going to need above average cooling along with a great piece of the wafer from the CPU, along with high quality ram. You'll notice great increases in performance(synthetic/gaming), yet perhaps not recommended with for a 24/7 overclock.
Ok I'm obviously lost here.. i'm reading the specs for the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P mobo and it says the following for memory supported

Memory
Number of Memory Slots 4Ã-240pin
Memory Standard DDR2 1366+/1066/800/667
Maximum Memory Supported 16GB
Channel Supported Dual Channel
OP! You're doing it wrong

Few motherboards (Especially older motherboards) will hit DDR2 1333mhz and more than likely your ram won't be capable of it. 1066mhz ram is ussually good enough and will not show significant real world gains.

New CPU/GPU/Mobo before getting new ram.

Edit: Reading your new post above, if you are looking at building a new system with a EP45-UD3P, then yes that motherboard will run DDR2 at amazing speeds. I would just buy a good set of 1200mhz DDR2 and overclock it if you really want to. This but they are expensive. You could just get a good 1066mhz set and call it a day for less money.

Ever wondered why all the 1366+ bogus is only related to Gigabyte?

You do see he has DDR 400? I think it might be a MoBo from 2004. I think a new MoBo is in order here.

But just for conversation very few applications will make a performance boost if faster than 1066Mhz.

I'm in desperate need of new PC.. looking at making builds on newegg.com and was stumped on getting compatible ram/best bang for the buck with the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3

DDR3 at 2000MHz on a 775 vs a i7 will tell a different story.
The Northbridge is a bottleneck when it comes to high DDR3 frequencies.

The 1366+ thing is Gigabyte's way of braging that it can manage DDR2 at 1366MHz unlike most other DDR2 boards that support max 1200Mhz in most cases.
