OH dude...

X^2 + 7x + 6 / x + 1

when you multiply 6 and 1, you get six, when you add 6 and 1, you get 7. Therefore..
(x+6)(x+1) / x+1
The X+1 cancels each other out, leaving x+6.
= x+6

so first you factor X2 + 7x + 6
u get (x+6)(x+1)
because

(x+1)
____ = 1
(x+1)

so ur left with (x+6) * 1 but theres no need for 1 so u get x+6

the numerator is x^2+7x+6
denominator is x+1

you factor the numerator to
(x+1)(x+6)
-----------
x+1

x+1's can cancel out because you can cancel factors of the numerator with the denominator or factors of the denominator. You can only cancel whole factors of the numerator. the answer is x+6

x+6

factor the polynomial to (x+1)(x+6)
now, the (x+1)s cancel out.
