3647 Views 51 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Cr4zYH3aD
Hey guys, I'm looking to build an AMD gaming rig. I have about $1200 to spend and it must include everything (monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard). I also need to get myself a legit copy of Windows 7 as well. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to building my own computer so please lend a helping hand

I'll be using this computer for gaming, HD video viewing, burning DVD's then your regular web browsing and msn. However, if possible I'd like to have this system last for quite a few years and still be able to play the latest games.

It doesn't have to be AMD. As a matter of fact, I was about to post the same thread in the Intel forum asking for a $1200CAD gaming build. I honestly don't care if it's AMD or Intel as long as it gets the job done well.

I will be using either NCIX or Infonec or both.

Phenom II 945, Asus M4A79XTD motherboard, OCZ Gold CL8 RAM, WD Caviar Black 640 MB hard drive (when it gets back in stock), Antec 300, TRUE, 750 Corsair power supply, Radeon 5770, dual-layer DVD burner, optional Blu-ray reader, Scythe S-Flex F fans. Monitors, speakers, mice, and keyboards are too subjective for me to offer advice. Shop around, and remember that NCIX pricematches.
$1200 CAD can get you a dynamite AMD rig.

Quick shopping list from Newegg. Probably not the best rig you can build for 1200 but I think it is ok for gaming.

I agree on the 965 (I didn't realise is was so close in price to the 945), but the shipping on nub's order is going to be at least $100. Also, the 64-bit OEM version of Windows 7 can be had for $128. nub also seems to have forgotten the case and power supply, and we all forgot the TIM.

total is 995$ CAD without price match and without monitor, mouse and keyboard. price match will bring it down alot though since ncix is very overpriced.

price match it to bestdirect, directcanada. usually those sites have some good prices. also without OS.

Phenom II 945 = $192
Gigabyte MA790XT = $138
OCZ DDR3 1600 = $95
HD 5770 = $180
500 GB Hard Drive = $62
Corsair 750TX = $134
Antec 300 = $70

Total = $871 CAD

Plenty of room left over for monitor/mouse/keyboard; Or if you already have those, better components/more hard drive space. Also, you can get a second 5770 and go crossfire!
I like MX-2 for a thermal paste.

I'd also strongly recommend checking Canada Computers and Newegg.ca for some deals.

When I was buying my system I purchased from NCIX, Newegg and Canada Computers... ended up saving over $500 in total.

My system is worth today what I paid for it almost a year ago
