Hew crew hows things.. well I hope, anyway I am looking up on the forum for other peope with opty 144's and how they went with the overclocking and vcore used. I havent really found anything yet. Just wondering how I am going with mine compared to others. It is not the day for doing overclocking in Adelaide today as it is hot and I have ambient temps of around 45C. I am getting load temps of over 55C with 1.6 vcore and @ 2906mhz. I am running water at the moment as I just wanted to get this new rig up and running. The stepping is CACJE. I have had it OCCT stable at around the 2850 mark and trying to get it at 2900+ at the moment. The mobo used is a DFI LP NF4 SLI-D with a 80 gig IDE Seagate Barracuda. I am only using 512 mb of ram (1 stick) and it is cheap stuff so keeping that at bay at the moment till I get the CPU sorted. Will post progress pics of build and OC as I go
Any suggestions and tips with these little CPU's are very welcome. It seems to be very different to the 3000+ set up so far, less volts and generally more stable. Lets see how it goes......

well it is stable for the time to do a super pi run. It is slow for the ram is running way below spec but Im not worried about that, just working on the cpu at the moment. RAM speed can come after I'm happy with the CPU OC. Here is a little proof pic. More to come yet

getting up there now and seems to be stable enough considering my high temps, always over 50c loaded. 2900 super pi stable. 1.1 gig over , 1.2 would be nice fo a 300 dollar cpu in OZ

Nioce I have an Asus so I cant go above 1.45 vcore with my opty 148 so 2.8 is my max. Anyway 55 is getting a little hot you should watch it.

lol......be nice if my chiller was running but what can you do. It is bloody hot here so this is what I have to deal with at the moment. I wonder how many rigs in Adelaide are overheating today??? I cant see it being a problem, if it gets too hot it will crash and the OC will be useless. Im surprised at how far I have got considering temps
Bring on the chiller and then I will be going further. I couldnt get to 2900 stable for the life of me and I dropped the vcore by not much at all and it came stable. Must of been the temps killing it
going to leave it folding at 2900 over night and see if it survives. It better

I'm a little confused about your RAM timing; it looks like you only have it clocked at DDR322. I think you'll find your Pi score will drop a little if you can get that RAM clocked at DDR400 or maybe closer to it. As for your overclock, it's looking real good. I had a CACJE 144 in my system for a while and I managed to get it up to 3.0 (after which my system crashed and I had to reactivate Windows!!!) Good luck and keep up the good work.

Yes the ram is going very slow just to keep it out of the way of the CPU OC for the moment. Will work on the ram soon enough which will improve PI times ten fold.

Just a little update. I cant seem to get it stable at 2950mhz, it just wont pass OCCT or Super PI with out errors. The temps are just getting too hot. I am getting load temps of over 55c when pushing around 1.6volts (vcore) and even up to around 59c. this might all be a bit better on a day when it isnt so warm. I even put another radiator in the loop to see if that helps but didnt do much at all. Need a day when it is not above 35C. My room temp is about 33c at the moment. I am not using a case at the moment- phonebook style.

I tell you what it is going to go close, just need a cooler day and it will do it I think. Pity the forcast is 39C tommorrow. Give me time and it will go
Need the chiller running....

Nice work Tuchan ..Those 144,s seem to like lower v-cores ...See if youu can find the sweetspot for yours ....I had my 146 stable at 3.050 with a v-core of 1.5 but if lifted to 1.55 then no go it would crash in prime and occt...Still nice work thouhg

Yes I noticed that that when the vcore was dropped a little bit it came stable. I am so used to just pushing more and more in to gain stability but that seems not to be the case. I havent tried any different bios versions as yet to see if it will help at all except:::: a different bios chip which I installed and it was not happy at all, the version was NF4 BIOS 618-3. Even at all standard speeds the mouse would not work. Not sure if that is all related but when I inseted the original chip it was fine again. Link to chip http://www.nintek.com.au/x/scripts/p...idcategory=585
The standard bios version one seems to say in PC Wizard 06
version 6.00pg
date 3rd October 2005
I get confused with working out the versions on nf4? its just the backward date thing over here...

Those dfi bios,s can be a bit daunting ....pity about the ambient temps ...I cab see a good o/c coming ...I know its good but 3.0+ should be on the cards got to go to work but will check back later ..good luck

Just an update on this OC. To head towards 3 gig I have installed my 226 watt TEC again to keep the temps under control as it is still hot in this part of the world. Well the cold bug has hit me big time. It seems to kick in at about 20C. I can boot into Windows no worries and start foding 24\\7, run OCCT and have no problems @ 2900mhz at temps over 50C( water only). When having idle temps of around 10- 16C (TEC)when starting up it has a crisis. The mem controller seems to be the effected part (had tips i did not thhink of this-ncsa) and have proved that it seems to be a real nightmare. I can boot into windows at the same speed (over 2900mhz) by keeping the TEC turned off untill it passes the mem test (scrolls down) and even longer until it becomes under load from folding to create some temps. When loaded it seems to be fine to a point. I have got load temps at just under 1.6 vcore @2900mhz loaded at around 35C. 1.55 vcore therabouts and the temps are loaded around 30-32C. The vcore from 1.5 to 1.55 thereabouts doesnt make a difference in speed and stability until over 2850mhz, then it starts to want more. I dont seem to be able to get higher clocks with lower temps at all, even with added vcore to try and get the temps up. I am thinking that 2950 is even out of reach with this chip. Will have to test with only water again on a cooler day to see if it is capable. The cold bug is killing this OC at the moment. At all stock speeds it blue Screens with the TEC running. All mobo prepping has been done and condensation is ruled out. Has anybody got any bright ideas on how to get around the cold bug?? Although this is not working properly yet this is still all good fun

EDIT: and this is not even running that cold....
When idle either OC or stock it will crash - lower temps, but loaded it is fine. Now I know why it crashes at the end of every WU.
