being that that a 1680x1050 res is a consideral bump up in pixels, i want to get most out of my 4870 1 gig mem vcard. i am gonna order a 22" samsung at that res.,but was considering my current montior is 1440x900. is it worth getting the samsung at a higher res? or am i better of staying with my 1440x900 monitor. i am excited to to go a lil bigger with more resolution, but is it worth it if the settings on games have to be turned down to compensate for extra pixels. might just get a higher quality 19" samsung over the 22" just so i can get more out of my video cards

...you have a 1GB 4870...you could go to a 24" monitor and probably not have to turn settings down.

What I mean by that is you will be just fine.

And I think the jump from 1440x900 -> 1680x1050 is huge, but that is just me.

Your HD 4870 will still be able to handle almost anything with the higher resolution and all the eye candy on. Especially since it's the 1GB version.

So you wouldn't have to lower the settings on games and a 22" is very much worth it.

There is an Acer, the same version I have, but the +BD version or something, that is a 19" but has 1680x1050 res. It's amazing.

I bought that one, but was sent the other model that is only 1440x900.
Man I wish I had 1680x1050. So much viewable screen.

1680x1050 looks better on a 20 inch monitor than on a 22 inch one. So I'd go as Stan says and get a monitor in proportion to it's resolution.

I feel ya j0z3. I'm using a 19" at work right now (1440x900) and it puts my 17" CRT to shame. I think 1680x1050 would be really nice detail on a 19", but it would be too small for text like I'm using it now...but then again, I'm sitting about 3-4 feet from the monitor.
