1600 vs 1866 for new build

Hi,

I am planning a new build, but i'm not sure about the memory and the psu.

i can't decide between the dominator 1600 and 1866 mhz.

this is what i plan to build, i'm going to overclock the 920 to 3.2 ghz with a true:

processor - core i7 920
memory - corsair dominator 6G 1600 / 1866
motherboard - asus r2e
graphics card - gtx 295
psu - cooler master M850

will i notice the difference between 1600 mhz and 1866 mhz watching blu-ray movies etc?

also is the power supply sufficient?

thanks,

ko

The difference in the RAM for movies, etc. is negligable. That PSU will more than do it. I think many need an 8pin and a 6pin power connector or 2 8s?? That PSU has 2 6s and 2 8s, so you'll be fine. I think anything above 700w will run that system.

No you won't notice a difference it will be negligible at best. You might want to consider getting the 1600 kit because the R2E has problems with the 1866 kit which should be fixed in the future with bios updates.

go for 1600, should be more than enough, and you can always overclock it higher. Use the saved money for something else.
I'd be a little concerned about the 6 +12V rails on the M850 PSU(although I'm not sure what the amperage rating are). Maybe consider a PSU with only 1 or 2 +12V rails.
thanks, i'll go with the 1600 kit.

about the psu, i would like a modular one, does anyone know a 850watt modular psu? and is the corsair 1000w overkill?
Ultra makes a 850Watt Modular, but for about $40 more you could go with the Ultra 1000 Watt Modular

The 1000watt would be overkill, but if you ever upgrade to to 2xGTX295, then you would be happy you went big.

The corsair HX1000W is an amazing psu and has very good reviews.

I have heard from some users that the Corsair CMPSU-1000HX PSU can easily run a system with 2x GTX 295's with power to spare. The SilverStone DA1000 is also a good choice for a 1000w PSU.

I would have to recommend the SilverStone ST85F or the SilverStone DA850 for an 850w modular PSU. The first one has 2x +12V rails with 35A on each and the other has 1x +12V rail with 70A.

Any of the PSUs on this page will work very well for you. I prefer the Decathlon series over the Strider series due to the single rail, but all of them are 100% modular. I don't think Corsair has 100% modular PSUs.

This is probably one of the best PSUs out there. Corsair HX1000w

It works wonders and the modular design looks good.
it won't matter. you won't be able to tell the different
