The HD4890 is a bit faster (10-15%, depending on overclocks) but is bigger, hotter, lacking in future proof features and much, much, much more power hungry.
The HD5770 is what I'd go for. It's a beast, and it's only going to get better with more driver releases.
I have gamed at 1680x1050 for about two years now. The 4850 was the best bang for buck, and it is only 94$ with the saphire. It has enough power to max out pretty much every game, and with the right settings crysis and others still look pretty.
