Hey all,

I was recently given a 16gb corsair Vengeance kit. 2 x 8gb sticks. Rated 9 9 9 24 2t

Questions that I have are, it's slower than my current 1866 ram but I do t really notice it outside of benchmarks an d hey can't argue with free 16gb. I have upped my VCCIO to 1.1 and changed the ram from 2t to 1t. I've primed and run linx and memtest and its stable.

Why do corsair recommend 2t for xmp rating if it works at 1t? Most ram seems to be rated 2t why is this?

Also it only scores 7.8 on WEI, I've always been 7.9. And although WEI is really a load of crap it is annoying me a little.

Any tips on perhaps tightening timings or overclocking this.

Also I upped the vccio to 1.1 as I read it helps with 16gn kits even if they are 2 sticks. Any truth in this?

Thanks for reading.

Should I bother trying to get these to run at cl8 1600 or maybe 1866 cl9-10 which I believe these potentially can overclock to given a bit of time/luck or shall I stick with xmp? I don't use the xmp option but I enter the xmp timings myself.

Corsair recommend 2T over 1T just to stay on the safe side and not to have too many returns.
Vccio does indeed help on Sandy Bridge CPUs, but not much. As memory frequency goes in 133MHz steps, you have to have at least 'weak' stability before trying to raise Vccio to see if it gets things fully stable.
If you are really able to notice the difference between 1866C8 and 1600C9 you might try overclocking the Vengeance. If it doesn't work out, you can always revert to spec.

I would think in general going from 8GB to 16GB is not going to make a difference in your current computer performance.
Better to stick to faster memory timing.
Or just go ahead and install the 16GB and sell off the 8GB for cash.
