OCZ ProXStream 1000w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
mine was only £63
, anyway
"Silent" - a load of balls. The fan itself is VERY smooth and well made it can be spund quite fast just by breathing on it...however it runs at nearly 3000rpm does generate a notable amount of noise but luckily at a frequency that doesnt give you a headache. It doesnt get very hot unless its hot in my room so i was wodnering:- How can i lower the fans speed without losing my 3 year warranty and is it possible to use some software for the job. There is no option in my BIOS

You want silent, stick with larger fan psu's, 120/140mm.
What size are the fans in that OCZ?
Nothing much you can do without opening it up.
Eww, 80mm? I thought most 800W+ had at least a 120mm...

/me <3 140mm on his TT 1200W

Oh wow it does only use a single 80mm, not good IMO.

I'm sure the fan is thermally controlled.
Is it possible to attach a 120mm fan to the outside of the PSU, the grill side in your case?

Doesn't have to be a high rpm fan, just something that will move more air through the psu.

Dont think there is a thermal control. HW monitor show it stays just below 3000 rpm from 20 to 40*c. my PC i already pretty well cooled. And i agree its unneccicarythat everything is made so small these days when something being bigger will do the same or better job with less trouble wether its heat or noise.
Can't realy complain for £63 eh

Although you would think they may have bothered to use a bigger fan ;l

HWM isn't showing the psu fan, how would it?

I believe grunion might mean there is a thermal monitor in the psu itself, not connected to the motherboard.. And controlled by the psu.
You should think hard about getting some extra cooling for this psu.

But the greatest problem with this power supply was its temperature. We suspect that because of its reduced size and the use of an 80-mm fan â€" which is too small for a 1,000 W power supply â€" this unit would overheat. Our suspicion proved to be right. With other power supplies we tested the power supply temperature was only one to three degrees Celsius above room temperature â€" for example, 47º C when the room temperature was 45º C. But with this power supply this didn’t happen. On the first test the difference was of five degrees, on the second test the difference was of four degrees, on the third test the difference was of seven degrees and on the fourth test the difference was of nine degrees. But the real problem was when pulled the full 1,000 W from the power supply: the unit reached 68º C while the room temperature was of 49º C.

A feature we could see in action was the fan speed changing depending on the power supply temperature. But since this unit works at very high temperatures during our tests its fan was spinning at full speed all the time, producing a very loud and unpleasant noise.
