I'm not sure if I enjoy WAR as much as I thought I would before it came out.

But it would take an act of God to make me go back to WoW.

I wonder how WoW's numbers will fair once Diablo 3 comes out? I sadly anticipate my social life going down the drain once it does...

I liked WAR. I have yet to try AoC. I also went through an LOTRO phase. That being said, I just started playing WOW again after 6 or more months off and find it fun. (for now) I am not a case study, though. I always do everything in bunches. i will play WOW non-stop for a few weeks and then not touch it for a few months. I need to learn to diversify, lol.
Well, I think people leaving War going back to WoW is less of a "the game is better" and more of a "I had nostalgic times with WoW and don't wanna miss WotLK"

I personally know a couple people who tried War and went back to Wow, and I asked why and they said "Wrath is coming out soon".

One thing I dislike about War is how poorly coded it is, and how my GTX260 bogs just running around at high settings...really weird.
I went back to WoW after AOC fell apart. I would have tried WHO but, I was in beta, and I really didn't care enough for it to make the switch. I have a friend that's playing it, but I think he's coming back to WoW soon as well. Oh, good freaking times.

EDIT: BTW, it's not exactly nostalgia for us. If we were playing EQ, that would be nostalgia. WoW is just a better game, in my most honest opinion. Blizzard has done a very good job. It's that simple.
AoC I knew was doomed to fail but I tried WAR. Seeing how big the Warhammer/40k tabletop community is I thought it would have fared a bit better but I just like WoW more.
I can't see how people still play WoW. The goal of the game is to get better gear which barely has an improvement on your current gear, and almost everyone else has the same amount of good gear. It's a damn cartoon fashion show.
Its crazy, but the number of WoW players keeps growing. I for one have been playing for about 3 years now, I tried AoC and hated it, and also WAR was not to my liking either.
The major problems I see with WAR were and are not being properly addressed. Most classes face imbalances that really shape how a player plays and how much he or she enjoys the game.

Being a class that really cannot do anything frustrates me more than anything else. On top of that, there really is no ultimate goal as far as gear goes. The itemization is so poor that some sets for instance Dark Promise of Sorc's is barely an upgrade compared to any other sets or even greens. That leaves me with less of a motivation to even do PVE.

PVP in this game was suppose to be massive open rvr but that has turned in to a musical chairs situation where people are farming the keeps for renown but never really fighting.

I would never play WoW again but as far as playing WAR goes, my account ends on the 21st of November and Mythic will probably never see another penny from me.

As far as WoW being better? It is really hard to compare since WAR is only 2 months old compared to a game that has been out for 4 years. I can see WAR being a big time flop if changes aren't being made as I have already seen massive guilds basically quit this game.

Edit - TwIsTeDbOi - I haven't heard the term Stumps in a LONG time lol. I am assuming you are in the Marine Corps? That place was god awful.

Thats the entire point of an MMO though. You improve your character to show off to other people. If there were massive increases each time you upgrade it would quickly get to the point where everyone is soloing the high level instances because they are freaking invincible. (Trust me, I've played a few private servers like that)

People play WoW because its an extremely polished game, and they are comfortable with it.

Which makes it fun. I don't even have crazy raiding gear anymore like I did pre-BC. I just have fun logging on and screwing around for a bit. *shrug*

I would like to add that, for me, one of the attractions of wow is the lack of graphics, lol. I actually like that it looks like a cartoon and not like crysis. Don't get me wrong, I like eye candy too, just enjoy an lighter type of animation sometimes. Brings me back to the days of sega disney games, lol. (and I just finally hit 70, so I have plenty to do. Once it becomes a boring gear grind, well, we'll see.....)
My main problem with WoW, and just about any other raiding-based MMO is just that. The raiding. I have a hard time relying on people that I cannot see face to face holding up their end of what is usually a relatively complicated strategy. Of course, my work schedule doesn't help either. Nothing like working nights to ruin your ability to raid when raiding is mostly done at, you guessed it, night.
I prefer WAR, but played WoW since release. I have stopped 3 times for about 2 months each. What makes WoW fun is that you can play with friends and not get super frustrated.

In WAR RvR there is a lot more involvement on the player to do multiple things at once. Say as melee: defend healers, dps, interrupts, etc. As a healer/hybrid: heal, remove debuffs, kite melee, detaunt dps, etc.

In PvE: it's more like wack a mole. Simple and slightly boring.

WAR's main draw is DAoC's RvR, but people forget real RvR is a t rank 40. Just like WoW begins at lvl 60, 70... most people didn't get there until a few weeks to a few months of release. WAR will mature, but Blizzard played it smart and is drawing people back to WoW with WoTLK. Release was scheduled for the same week WAR went Live. People are going back to WoW reasons such as:
Being bored of the same things repeated.
Bugs, which will get better.
Imbalanced and unaddressed ranged classes (i.e Bright Wizard)
Healers having a poor ability to rank up in PvE
They have high lvl/rank characters in other games and don't want to spend more time gaining experience
etc.

And these were also issues WoW began with, but most people look passed it. Most MMO's have the same basic advancement. All your doing is building your character and working with others to do this. It is just playing a game like Final Fantasy with other people.

Personally I like more human to human interaction as that creates inconsistency with the game. It is like playing FPS online vs. playing FPS single player. One is more PvP based and the other is PvE. WAR vs WoW. In my opinion WoW's PvP is broken and cannot be fixed since they balance it around PvE. Melee will always scale higher than Magic based classes.

So, what did people say about WoW when newbies were complaining the game is boring and leveling is slow? Wait till 60, 70 then you will have a lot of fun. Is that not the same with WAR? People are less willing to wait now, because of the MMO hype and so many new ones are in development. There is also a lot of free MMOs... and new games of other genres coming out this holiday season unlike 2-3 years ago when next-gen systems were being pushed out and less games to choose from.

Not only like a cartoon, but like being shrunk into Warcraft 3. Basically its the same look and art direction, but on a much larger scale.

I remember going into Org and seeing all of the little buidlings i built in war3 blown up to full scale... and that to me was just awesome.

I played AoC for about...5 days....biggest waste of 50 dollars ever. I played WAR for about a month and it was fun, but i just wasnt really enjoying it. I have played wow since the game first game out jsut about 4 years ago. I have quit here and there for a few months but the big problem is....my RL friends all play it and well honestly it controls their lives.....kind of sad really.

I do enjoy wow but lets face it...it does get boring. Grind to 70.....get gear, then try and upgrade that gear....but what do you do when you get all the good gear? get more? thats the thing that gets to me.....its so repatitive. I have a level 70 horde druid with full t6. 8/8 set with the best items i can get. And once i got that it just....i dont know it seems dumb now. I raided pre-BC, i raided when BC came out and its the same.

I am trying to convince my friends to stop playing because WOTLK is going to be the same thing as everything else. Grind, gear grind gear. Now before you all flame me i know thats the point of the game, but i just cant see why people get so crazy for it. As i stated above i came back to the game each time becuase of my RL friends....kind of sad i have to pay 15 dollars a month to talk to them ><

anyways i am excited about D3. If its anything like D2, then i can def see me being done with WOW, regaurdless of if my RL friends are playing or not. D2 was my all time favorite game and D3 im sure will stack up just as high. I just hope WOTLK sucks jsut as much as it did in the Beta, that way i can rub it in my friends faces when it comes out
