While that's the competition speaking about Impulse (GamersGate is a digital PC game seller, albeit one that doesn't rely on a client like Steam or Impulse), one developer that has been selling its game through the service decided it doesn't want to be in business with GameStop -- and will yank its game as a result. Blind Mind Studios announced last week that it intends to pull Star Ruler (pictured above) from Impulse due to the recent acquisition.

"Due to a rather large list of things we detest about GameStop, Star Ruler will no longer be available for purchase on Impulse after the takeover," a statement on the game's official website reads. "We are ending sales through Impulse due to GameStop's long, negative behavior toward the PC platform and independent games. We would never have signed onto distribution through GameStop, and being forced into this situation has only made it worse for us. We feel GameStop cannot serve as the leader of a true competitor in the digital distribution market."

Ya as much as I liked Impulse it was a failing platform anyway. It's good that Stardock won't have to worry about it dragging them down.

Haha, Stardock made a smart financial move. Good for them. Impulse wasn't competing effectively with Steam and never will, especially not that FailStop is at the helm.

I have to agree with this, GameStop is a joke when it comes to supporting PC games. A single rack of games sitting sideways so you can barely see the cases or titles.

I never understood the hate of Gamestop. If you think you can do a better job running a video game store no one is stopping you. I for one love the fact they are around. If I am looking for an older game I can head over to Gamestop and get one on the cheep, and with a warrenty with it also.

There's supporting PC gaming and then there's wasting space on the floor. The few around here used to have an entire wall dedicated to PC games (one still has a decent selection), but I'd wager the fact that it's been reduced to a rack in most stores is pretty indicative of sales.

Not to mention buying and selling used games is their bread and butter. Not very PC friendly, especially nowadays with all the ridiculous DRM and online accounts you have to register with.

They still manage to cram most of the year's big releases on that one rack, as well as most other PC games on their website. Plus, their digital selection dwarfs most brick and mortar stores' PC games selection.

Yea Im pretty sure gamestop will be stopping you from having a game store, the only way they got that big was by eating all the competition.

Yea, GL doing that for PC games. Gamestop is primarily for console gamers.

they got to do something before Microsoft and Sony expand their digital services and gamestop starts to get cut out. Don't want to end up like Blockbuster
I'll reserve judgment until I see what they do with Impulse.

The Gamestops in my area have a pretty limited selection for older (say, PS2) games. Their retail PC game selection has been drastically cut back as well; it used to be that they had a fairly nice selection for both even several years ago, and I'd go in once in a while to see what RPGs they had for PS2, but now they barely have anything left.

That being said, I don't have a dislike for Gamestop; it's just that I remember when they had a lot more variety in the games they offered.

I game alot on consoles, and ironically, I just go on Amazon to buy games. YOu can often find games their new for less than gamestops prices for used.

In the near future - there will be only 4 distributors of games, steam/valve, sony, microsoft, and nintendo. All via online distribution.

There is no money to be made at brick/mortar stores anymore when it comes to games. Gamestop is trying to weasel their way into the field any way they can. So they purchased impulse,OK, but why? They have consistently given PC gamers the finger, impulse is a (mostly) indie pc game distribution service.

INDIE. PC GAMERS.

Seriously Gamestop? Your going to try to cater to some of the most hardcore PC geeks? I just don't picture the kind of people playing stuff like Hearst of Iron, SoaSE, or GalCiv being too enthused with buying from Gamestop. That's even assuming Gamestop doesn't re-purpose the service into something else, killing the existing user base. Just a very, very fail-filled exercise. I'll enjoy watching them crash and burn though; at least it will somewhat make up for them destroying Electronics Boutique

Note to self...don't get involved in any business venture with Blind Mind Studios. I wonder if Blind Mind leadership has heard of the expression "cutting off one's nose to spite their face".

You'd think as an indie developer, they'd appreciate any marketing and sales channels that they can get...though I guess this stunt worked because I'm sure many of us have never heard of Star Ruler or Blind Mind until now.

They don't support PC gaming so that's probably the biggest reason, next they are pretty much a monopoly and hire idiots.

And if I want an older game I can go on eBay or Amazon and get it for $4 shipped

I don't know about you, but I love my limited editions. If it's online distro ( if by that you mean download game only ) I don't get that. Which sucks.
