I am an AMD man. I have a P4 478 2.8 HT Chip just sitting here in my hardware box. Should I build a system with it or would I be wasting my time?
I have seen that some companies make boards that support the 478 chips but run on the new Intel chipsets...therefore supporting ddr2 and pci-e. ASRock is on of these companies, I called them and asked them how to get my hands on one of these boards and they told me they are only available in the Japanese market. I have seen them from time to time on ebay and they go for about $200 USD. If I were to pick up one of those boards on ebay would it be worth my time?
Thanks,
$200 for a 478 mobo? Bad deal. That CPU would be a major bottle neck for both the DDR2 and PCI-E. I would say stick with the older DDR and AGP and perhaps build a cheap folding rig out of it. Overclock it too of course, some of those 2.8ghz chips can hit 4ghz.

Sweet, thanx for the info, I have not run a Intel chip since socket 423, What would be a good setup to go with? I have 2 old server cases here a 20 bay and a 24 bay...they are bare naked right now but im thinking of doing a custom mod to the cases because they are so huge, I would want to water cool just because of the lack of case fan support on these older cases (they only hold 3 80mm case fans each) I also have a Kingwin 450W PSU sitting in one of the cases that would work for the p4. Any suggestions on a board to use?
Thanx for any info.
