2 Samsungs, what is the difference??

650 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  SpcCdr
So I have been shopping for 2 new 22" Samsungs to replace the 22" Samsung that I have, and I am just totally lost on why there is such a price difference between this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001254

And this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001268

Both have great reviews, but why such the large price difference?

The only difference I can spot is the response time, seems to be a bit quicker on the second one (2ms vs. 5ms). I guess the second one is also a newer version probably, but other than that I would probably get the first one from what I see there.

The second one has a GTG 2ms response time. This is Grey to Grey response time, different from the normal kind of response time we are used to talking about. The normal response time of the second monitor is also 5ms.

One is glossy and the other is not, and the first one has height adjustment... But weighs 5 pounds more
There doesent appear to be any difference. This happens sometimes, manufacturers figure a glossy chassis and a few usb ports justify a large price difference. But the panels are the same. In any case, I wouldn't reccomend buying an lcd panel from newegg, since they require you have 8 dead pixel mininum to get a replacement, luckily for you, samsung has a no dead pixel policy, so just register your lcd when you get it, and samsung should take care of you. Always be careful about dead pixel policies when you buy an lcd. So, go with either one. If you are strapped for cash, like being able to adjust your screen more, etc go for the cheaper one, if you like gloss, get the other one. Its all personal preference. Personally (heh), i would spend the extra cash (especially if you are looking at the more expensive one) on a 1980x1200 screen, the difference between a 22 and a 24 inch may seem trivial on paper, but its night and day when you finally crack open a game in 1200p goodness.

Yea, I saw that. The first one looks almost exactly like the 225BW that I have, but has better contrast ratio than mine. I am looking to see if these have any performance differences or anything like that. I remember with the Samsung 226BW monitors, they outsourced the work on the LCD panel to a couple different places, so that people only wanted the "s" model of that monitor, not the "a' or "c" model. I was wondering if maybe this was something of that nature, but I could not find anything out on the net that would say so. Anyone out there have a 2243BWX?

Price really is not an issue. Of course I do not want to waste my money at all, and the purpose of having the second monitor would be for work and internet browsing. So maybe I should get one 1920x1200 monitor for gaming and go el cheapo on the secondary montior and go with the other Samsung? Not having things match would bug me so much though.

Yea, you can get used T220's on ebay for less than $190 shipped. I am sometimes wary of eBay however.

Pooter, the short answer 2253 is newer version of 2243!

and the X you ask?!?!
You wanna know about the X????

The X is for eXpansion!

it's got USB ports

WooHoo party time..... USB on a monitor!!
[/sarcasm]
The rest is just cabinetry and stand preferences.... same panel tech (probably... goes to look it up... BRB)
Hope that cleared that bit up for ya!
But as soulsonic stated very succinctly, The jump from 22"---->24" is way much more than just the extra 2"
(*waits for the "That's not what She said" jokes*
)

Cheers

Man, here I was thinking, OK, I will get 2 new 22" monitors. Now I am thinking, well I could get 2 "24" monitors. However, the shipping is horrible on 24" monitors!! Plus, none of the Samsungs at that size have height adjustments...man.

Well two 22"ers will get you plenty of real estate, BUT no matter how much area you've got
You'll end up kicking yourself over not having the extra resolution!
Think of it this way, we're all new adopters here... we upgrade our cpu's and our gfx cards on a bi-monthly basis right?

BUT your monitor is THE one component of your computer you actually interface with the most...
The one that you actually have to look at for hours at a time daily
And Yet... it's the one component that we replace the least frequently---
You may possibly end up using your new LCD for the next two to three years (if not longer!)

It is NOT the part to "cheap out" on!

Average out the time you spend every day on your computer and extrapolate that to a couple of years.... it's dollars pennies a day!!

Would you rather be staring at two "meh so-so" 22 inchers and be punching yourself and muttering obsceneties every time you turn your computer on for the next few years...
OR would you rather turn your computer on everyday and when you sit down just think "WOW that thing is gorgeous"
-- doubly so when you fire up that HiDef content on your Blu-ray!!

I guess the point I'm making.... hold out, maybe sell a kidney, (or at least some 'puter parts) and spend the most you can reasonably afford on your next HiDef monitor.
(note: I am not condoning going into debt or going hog wild on a $3K 30 OLED set...just splurge... a bit...
You'll thank yourself every single day!!

Indeed, 24 inchers w/ 1200p are getting cheaper and cheaper by the minute, i believe the cheapest one on newegg is 260, and periodically, there will be great deals in open box (not for the faint of heart). There is also a bunch of great 24inchers on tigerdirect for cheaper than newegg even. I had one of the refurb gateway fhd2401 for awhile and was very impressed with it, although i would get the fhd2400 for the extra inputs, and height, swivel, and pivot.

Heres a decent acer 23" with 1080p resolution for 200 bucks! Thats ridiculous.

This page has plenty of 24 inch monitors that are the same price, if not cheaper, than the more expensive 22 you were lookin at.

Hahaha. I always enjoy reading your posts. Seems to me like someone loves their HTML

I get what you are saying, and I am not trying to be cheap. Really, that is the last thing I could be accused of. If you don't believe me, you can ask my 60" plasma or my 52" 120 hertz LCD! I love spending money on good electronics. I was just simply curious about the huge price difference between the two monitors, because as I was shopping, I noticed how large the price difference was and how very similar the two models were. I have to say I have been really happy with 1680x1050, but I will probably go with a 1920x1200 and see how I like it, and then buy another one.

Yea, those are some good prices for sure.
1. I am afraid to order from Tigerdirect.com
2. I am somewhat afraid to buy a refurb, unless I know where it was done
3. I used to work in a place that had the 24" Gateways, and they were prone to the screen door effect and backlight bleeding
4. Acer shows decent quality for the price, but I would rather pay more and get more!
5. I can almost guarantee that I will never buy anything except a Samsung monitor

I do really appreciate the input, and I will probably have the little lady pick me up a T240 tomorrow at work(Best Buy) and then have her bring it home to me!

I can testify that the t240 is a great monitor. Although, brand new it is far more expensive than many other 24 inchers or equal quality. While im not saying go for tigerdirect, I will say that I have ordered a refurb monitor from them, (the 22inch gateway), and while they may have sent me the wrong one (the 24 inch gateway! woot!), it was in absolutely flawless condition. I have also bought a refurb t240 from some creepy canadian retailer off ebay for 300 bucks and it only had one dead pixel. Keep in mind that although you may get a lemon, the chances are small, at least, if you dont go to ebay ( i got crazy lucky.

Pooter
1) Yep Me too
2)Definitely agree there!
3)You don't want backlight bleed or Screen door -- Get an H-IPS panel

4)Pay more (even a little bit) and your PQ goes up exponentially! (even within the same family)
5)
and

@ Soul ^^ Yes the t240 (A TN
) IS great monitor for the price!!!
However...the HP lp2475w H-IPS panel blows the doors off it!
Then goes on to de-pants and
even the high-end s-pva panels from Sammy! (like the 245t)

Panel Tech Primer
Check out ANY of the reviews listed for it: like this one from TFT Central or this one from pRAD or see the lengthy thread over at [H]ardforum!

As far as spending the money... (and/or buying off ebay)...
There are reputable shops that list on ebay; ones that have full return and replacement policies!
and, I'm not sure what the current % is but, The M$ cashback is rolling again!!
[edit] I Just checked -Only 8%
<--- Patience young Jedi!!!
[/edit]

I purchased my HP from a store on Ebay (Buy it Now) BNiB for only $500 and got 30% Cashback (& got my money back two weeks ago- 60days to the day)
So- effectively it only cost me $350!!!

Only catch- you have to have the money to venture up-front!

So, I'm sitting in front of an absolutely sick (stupendously gorgeous) H-IPS beauty of a 24"er
With wider color gamut, deeper blacks, and virtually no backlight bleed (no flashlights or cloudiness
)
and don't even hafta think about -meh I need something better! for another 5-6 years!! (Heck My old Viewsonic VX910 19" which cost me $700 in 2004) is still going strong) <---See previous post about ammortizing your investment

Just my thoughts (
) GL
Cheers ALL

PS in case anybody's wondering NO I don't have a beef with Sammy- My Entire Kitchen is Sammy
and I just bought a Sammy LN32A650 over the Sony 32RXB6 because of extensive reviews (mainly at AVSF)
Gets here Tomorrow WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
