2 video cards + 1 for Physx

1018 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Vlasov_581
I have 2 x BFG GTX 285's. Was going to buy a 3rd one from NCIX to run Physx on, but their dealer no longer carries it.
So I'm thinking about buying a different BFG card, but looks like they don't have any 28* or 26*. So I was thinking maybe getting a BFG Geforce 9600. Also when setting to run the Physx, does it need to be attached to the sli bridge?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Physx does not need to be attached with a SLI bridge, and another 285 for physx would just be overkill lol, the 9600 should be fine.
9600GT will work good......i'm using 8800GSes in both of my gaming rigs and they work very well

I used to use an 8800 GTS 320 for PhysX, so you should be fine with a 9600...I think.
any 8800 series, or 9800 series should go well for physx, or even an 250 gts but personally I'd stay with an 8800gt or 9800gt for price, power consumption and the fact that most of them are single slot solutions, although a back blowing card would be nice

gtx 285 would be overkill though, you might as well go 3-way sli fi you get a 3rd
Is it ok to mix cards? Like a BFG GTX 285 and a EVGA 9800GT?
Would I need to install both video card drivers?
for SLI yes, im not sure about physx... Although I dont see a problem with it.

If you can use physx with crossfire, I dont see why not
For SLI all the cards need to have the same GPU, but it doesn't matter what brand they are or how much RAM they have. PhysX can be any card as long as it's nVidia.

They use the same drivers. Brand doesn't matter, you can SLI EVGA and BFG.

The latest Nvidia drivers all ready include the Physx drivers IIRC, so essentially you just need to install the card and set the appropriate Physx settings.

OK thanks. I'm going to go with the EVGA 9800GT instead.
