2 week old PSU going bad?

320 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Sullivan
I have an ePower Tiger 1200 watt PSU

Here is the problem
I shut down the computer and when I go to power it up my PSU makes a slight whine and the on board motherboard lights flash. I press the power button again and nothing. I then started to unplug 2 120mm (.37A, 4.5W) fans from my MB and then everything powers on? 1200 watts is more than enough to power all my components. Any ideas?

trusting a generic PSU to power a GTX295 is no the smartest thing in the world.

whats the Amps on the 12V rail?
I haven't used ePower Tiger 1200 before. It shows it can do 1000w on 12v. Based on what you have, a 750w psu should be fine. Trying to contect those two fans to psu instead of MB to see what happens.

Generic PSU, I suggest you read the review.

you have made a big mistake. learn from this young one. never go cheap on your psu
Even the best have a few defects or DOAs

But, as said try not using the MB to run the fans especially if their high flow hi draw, thats a No No!

Cheap my ass!

I guess you did not take the time to read the review or just look at the test results or the conclusion. The PSU is solid compared to as you might say some NAME BRAND PSU's. Just because its not a silver stone, cooler master etc. does not mean it is a POS or generic. I have yet to find a bad review on any PSU they make.

I hooked one of the fans to the PSU and left one hooked to the MB, it didn't hesitate to start.

Thanks to the ones who actually suggested something instead of calling my PSU names.

PSU is :swearing:
Don't judge me cause I don't have a fancy name.
